November 13, 2006 at 8:49 am

Ok, .iso files work for movie DVD's and not for Xbox games, because the game engine cuts off anything media center was doing. The way I understand it, XBMC kind of ports the game you select back to the native Xbox engine (that engine can't really be emulated well). So no other XBMC functions are available while you game. Running an .iso is one of those functions. You need to extract that .iso to a folder on the Xbox, probably through FTP. You can mount the .iso on your PC using Daemon Tools, etc., and then FTP all the contents to your Xbox. It might be easier though, to use a program called Craxtion to open the .iso and extract it to your Xbox in a folder you specify. If you have a stock hard drive, one or two games will usually max it out. I suggest making a new folder on your E drive called Games if you haven't already. I think that's a default source in XBMC My Programs. So, get all all the files and folder to the Xbox hard drive, and it will usually play them ok.Hope that makes sense. It's early here:)

gdog05 responded to the thread Help with setting up XBMC

October 4, 2006 at 9:16 am

If you set the IP manually it should stay that way whether you're wired or wireless. I'm not real familiar with the EvoX dash, but I believe it's very similar to the XBMC dash config. In that case, go to the Network Settings and it should have a drop down for Auto (DHCP), Manual, or Get Network Info from XBox Dash. (I actually set mine up through the XBox Dash before I began the mod, for ease of use, but I made it Static in XBMC). If you select manual, you will need to select an IP address not being used. I have 2 computers on the router, plus the XBox, so I set one computer to: 192.168.1.100, the second computer to: 192.168.1.101, and the XBox to: 192.168.1.103 (should have been 102, but when I bring in a laptop and connect through DHCP, I want it to take a lower number). You should check what IP address your computers have now, because the range of numbers in the fourth position (ie 100, 101, 103) varies by router manufacturer as the default. Some use tens, some use hundreds. Linksys I believe is always in the 100's. If you want to leave your computers as DHCP, give your XBox a static IP address farther away (120 instead of 103), so you don't get conflicts from a bad DHCP. A non-hacked router is kind of weak in that regard. Your Subnet Mask should always be: 255.255.255.0, and your Gateway will probably be: 192.168.1.1 (varies depending on router). The address you assign manually should stay the same whether you plug in with a cable or a wireless adapter. When you assign the IP manually, you tell the router where you are, instead of the router telling you. If you do switch from cable to wireless, a simple reboot should take care of everything I imagine. You might also be prepared to try a different FTP program if you still have timeout issues. I prefer Filezilla (find it at sourceforge.net), it connects well through security problems, etc. I do hope that solves your problem though. Cheers, GDog

You can access the xbox's hardrive through FTP, but exerything else is basic SMB networking. You need to tell the XBox where your PC's hard drive is. You need to have a shared folder or drive on your PC or a network storage device. Once you have a share, you can go to a SMB folder in my videos or my music and hopefully your computers name will show up in the list. Hopefully, I didn't leave out a step there, but once you have the gyst, you should be able to walk though it. @ karmalicious:I hate to answer for Erik, but just in case he's busy, I'll give it a shot. When you say MS XBox Wireless router, do you mean a wireless access point connected to the access point that gets an IP from another router on your system? If that's case, you might try setting the IP address manually if you haven't already. That seems to make a big difference in connecting to it, DHCP can be a little cluttered and make manual connections even harder. The fact that you are wireless shouldn't be a problem later on, but when you're doing the initial install I would highly suggest using a cable and connecting directly. You can set it up to be temporary, and then go wireless. Wireless can lose small packets of data, or even corrupt them making your life very hard. My $.02 on that one. Once I have enough done, I'll post a preview pic to see if it's even worth continuing on.
