January 11, 2008 at 2:42 pm

"Erik, I respectfully disagree with a few of the statements you made. How do you define "noteworthy"? Is it based on reviews, sales, status, whether it is written by someone famous, potential to positively impact people's lives, track record of positive impact, published by a major publishing company, or what? Not having read the book, how can you declare it "not noteworthy"? I personally know many people whose lives have been positively impacted by this book. As far as not adding much value to the wiki, what is perceived as adding value? Certainly this adds more value than comments like "AW fricken SOME so sweet!!" (found posted on a product page - no offense intended to its poster, merely using this as an example). The main point is, how can I help this book and/or its entry add more value to the community? The two books I posted as competitors are two of the top-selling career guides of all time, and I included them in an effort to be fair and not just make this entry a one-sided, self-serving advertisement. Omar's post (linked below) encourages product innovators to add their product to "create a valuable position on the web" and "show off your product to the growing community of passionate people" - precisely why I added the book. http://www.productwiki.com/home/article/a-message-to-product-innovators.html I believe that it can help a LOT of people, and this is one way to make more people aware of it so that it can help more people. I'm also confident enough in the quality of the book to put it out there in a wiki where anyone can post their opinions and reviews of it. Regarding the inclusion criteria and exclusion criteria you referenced in the other post (pasted here for convenience), I'd say it definitely meets the first two criteria, being of interest to a wide range of job seekers, recruiters, HR / staffing personnel, etc. It does contain loads of original, useful information - for example many techniques for streamlining the job search process that I've never seen anywhere else. Since it was just posted yesterday, there hasn't been sufficient time for many taps, comments or votes. It also does not meet any of the exclusion criteria, unless you consider some of the description to be "marketing speak." (Quote) Inclusion Criteria To keep a report I suggest that they meet at least one of the following criteria: are a noteworthy product (in-demand, popular, interesting, etc). It's fairly subjective contain original, useful information have been tapped, commented or voted on in a legitimate way by a real, non-shill user Exclusion Criteria Conversely, factors that can lead to a report being nominated for deletion would be (in any combination): NOT-a-product but rather a service, concept, person, animal (or poop) The article is copied-and-pasted marketing speak their are many shill comments, reviews, voting, or tapping in an attempt to mislead there are many SEO links the report offers no-value to the community, only to the submitter Applying these criteria to the original report in this case. It does not meet any of the inclusion criteria, and it hits 2 out 3 exclusion criteria. (End quote) With the post being a brand new one on the site (just posted yesterday), I'd suggest giving the community time to decide for itself before excluding books in general or any specific books. Regards, David B.
