Released in 1958, the Gibson ES-335 was the first commercially available hollow body on the market. Rather than being fully hollow, it has a block of wood running through its center, with sound chambers featuring an F-hole on either side. The semi-hollow body gives it a more woody sound than a solid-body, while having less problems with feed back than a hollow body. Made most famous by guitar great Chuck Berry, the ES-335 is arguably the most popular semi-hollow guitar of all time.
