Released in 1961, the Gibson SG standard has become one of the most famous and recognizable Gibson guitars ever.  The SG (solid guitar) was released as a newly styled Les Paul, has a much thinner profile and a sharp pointed double cutaway. The "SG" had the name "Les Paul" written on it's headstock until 1963 when it was replaced by the letters "SG".  The original SG featured a smaller pickguard than the current model available, and went though several changes throughout the SG's life. There are several reissue standard SGs available with the smaller pick guard.  The SG standard is made of solid mahogany with a rosewood finger featuring trapezoid inlays and comes in a wide variety ebony, natural burst and it's famous heritage cherry.  It has a set neck, twin humbucking pickups and a fixed tuno-matic bridge.  Made famous by such guitarists as Tony Iommi, Robby Kreiger and Angus Young, the SG is one of the meanest looking and sounding guitars on the market.
