Gigabyte GA-MA69GM-S2H

Gigabyte's GA-MA69GM-S2H was released to appeal to the HTPC (home theater PC) crowd. It features onboard video, 7.1 channel sound, HDMI and DVI output, and 4 x SATA connectors. To save space, the SATA ports are arranged horizontally rather than vertically.

Cons:
Do you agree?
The AMD 690G chipset is not fully supported in Linux, limiting its usefulness as a Linux-based HTPC.
+1agreedisagree

Because the SATA connectors are horizontal, it's possible standard length cables will be too short.

As of May 2008, I tried to install linux (Centos 5.1 x86). It comes up in 600x800 mode. The LAN was not supported on Centos. The video is not supported as far as I can tell. I found a LAN driver from Realtek but I have not gotten it to compile without a LAN connection to get GCC.

Except for video and network it works great. Probably better to put windoze on it.

I would like to try the HDMI on my TV, no glasses. I could display stock tickers and RT-charts.

I can't get Ubuntu 8.04 to install on this board. It hangs at 5% of formatting hard drives. I've tried "Legacy SATA", noapic, nloapic, apci=no and multiple hard drives to no avail.
