Google Chrome

Google Chrome is a web-browser from Google released on September 2nd, 2008. There are three main areas on which Google intends to improve the browsing experience compared to its more entrenched counterparts: security, anonymity, performance. Under the hood there are new browser models implemented that separate the rendering from the program itself, what this means is that individual pages won't slow down or completely crash the entire browser program. On the performance side Google has implemented their own Javascript rendering engine, called V8 that is reported to be 100 times faster than IE7's. On December 11, 2008 Google removed the "beta" designation with it's version 1.0 launch.

It feels so right, but with the big google tag and without adblock it starts to feel wrong. Just hope Mozilla steals all this amazing tech.

Man, gotta hand it to Google on this one. To have me already seriously switching to Chrome from Firefox after about 5 minutes of use is impressive.

It's fast, it's clean, it's got a wicked software architecture, it's Google.

Actually, I decided not to switch. Ultimately it came down to 1) the lack of awesomeness in the location bar, and 2) the fact that chrome doesn't work well with win-split revolution.

It's quite buggy software, on my girlfriends PC she has a tough time getting scroll to work consistently, and it seems to render slower than Firefox. For me, it's an amazing browser, but on a second screen with a different resolution it will maximize to the original screen resolution and I also find it to be way too simplistic compared to the much more mature Firefox. Hopefully this wakes Mozilla up.

yeah, i found it surprisingly slow having used it for a little while last night.

I'm still optimistic about where its going but not convinced to switch yet.

It looks like the "beta" release 0.3.154.9 came out on Oct. 29. Before that they were calling the releases "development" or "preview" releases. I posted a link to the release blog in the external links.

No addons yet. It still has the quirky Window tiling mode issue.

Well, Google pushed a new beta update. Very stealth - all the sudden one really annoying bug was just fixed. Only getting nicer... now if only there were extensions...

Edit: Oh, 0.3.154.9 was out for this long already? Hmmm...
