The TomTom VIA 1500 Series was released as an upgrade from the VIA 1400 Series. It offers a larger 5” touchscreen display with an improved resolution for better viewing maps and data while driving. In particular, this series hosts three sub products—the 1400, the 1505, and the 1535. All three offers spoken street names so users can pay attention to the road; advanced lane guidance for navigating difficult junctions and not missing important turns; and IQ routes, a technology that allows users with an optional traffic receiver to receive more accurately calculated routes based on actual traffic speeds. The VIA 1535 also adds along Bluetooth connectivity, which means users can make hands-free phone calls with their Bluetooth compatible smartphones. The TomTom VIA 1400 Series hosts three automobile GPS receivers, including the 1400, 1405, and 1435. The 1400 hosts the most memory (4GB), but it only has maps of the United States and Canada. The 1405 adds maps for south-of-the-border travel, but goes down to 1GB of RAM. The last one, 1435, includes Mexico maps and Bluetooth wireless, so users can make hands free phone calls. Plus it allows users to control the unit by voice. All three units rely on a large 4.3” LCD display for easily seeing maps, and a 3 hour battery, meaning the unit can be removed from the car and used portably. Coming in the upper middle of this product line, the Garmin GPSMAP 7015 is a high-end marine GPS unit. This model is a step down from the flagship GPSMAP 7215 model in that it lacks preloaded coastal maps. However, the GPSMAP 7015 does come with a worldwide basemap, which is satellite-enhanced. Both the 7015 and the 7215 sport a 15.5 inch touchscreen display, with a resolution of 1024 x 768 (XGA). The display shows maps that can be redrawn on the fly at high speeds, thanks to Garmin's G Motion technology. The display is also capable of showing 3-D maps views, but you need to purchase the BlueChart g2 Vision card separately to get at that feature.

Bushnell's Backtract Point-3 is a portable GPS unit, based on the Original Backtrack model. The TomTom Go 2535 M Live is an automobile based GPS receiver released as an upgrade from the original TomTom Go 2535. It adds along support for TomTom HD Traffic, which allows users to gain immediate and accurate information pertaining to traffic jams. In particular, this new chip provides an update every 2 minutes (or up to 15 minutes) so users can better route their trips. Like its predecessor, the M Live model offers voice recognition so users can speak to the unit. The Magellan RoadMate 5045 is a middle-end GPS. It is designed to provide a user with their current location, as well as directions to locations they look up. It features free lifetime traffic, a free map update, and spoken street names and directions. The lifetime traffic feature keeps the GPS up to date with traffic in real-time. This lets the user know where things such as traffic jams are, so they can avoid them. The RoadMate 5045 includes a free map update, that lets the user download an updated version of their map, adding new geographical points. The GPS is also capable of speaking street names and directions. This allows a user to focus on the road, so they won't even have to turn their head to look at the screen. When compared to another GPS by Magellan, the RoadMate 2055, the RoadMate 5045 has several advantages, including a bigger screen and a free map update.

The Garmin GPSMAP 6212 is the flagship offering in the 6000 series of marine GPS units. This model is equipped with highly detailed maps of the coastal United States, which is what puts it at a higher price than the closely related 6012 marine GPS. Features shared between the two models include a worldwide basemap, which is shown on the unit's 12.1 unit XGA display. G Motion technology updates the map in real time, to keep your information current. Another shared feature is the ability to integrate into the Garmin Marine Network, which allows you to use the GPS unit with high-powered sonar and radar. You also have the option of getting music and weather from XM.

Coming in the lower middle of this product line, the Garmin GPSMAP 7212 is a high-end marine GPS unit. Preloaded coastal maps, featuring highly detailed marine cartography of the coastal United States, are what put this model at a higher cost than the base GPSMAP 7012 model. Features shared between the two models include G Motion, which accommodates uncertain weather by redrawing maps at high speeds. Another shared feature is a 12.1 inch 1024 x 768 resolution (XGA) touchscreen display, which can display 3-D map views with the addition of the BlueChart g2 Vision card (sold separately). Both models are compatible with Garmin radar and sonar.
