Introduced in March 2009, the PS1000 is the second high end circumaural headphone, and current flagship from Grado Labs. Featuring the same oversized pads and body design as the previous flagship the GS1000, the PS1000 features an enclosure with a metal exterior and a wooden interior for the combined qualities both materials exert on the sound signature. Considered by the majority of those lucky enough to hear them to be the best Grado has designed (including such rarities as the PS1 and HP-1000). The PS1000 also feature a price tag to match. At $1650, the PS1000 match other high end flagship headphones such as the HD800.

Grado PS1000
vs.
Ultrasone Edition 9
MSRP $2,000.00
Released --
Pros
- doesn't look quite as silly as the Lambda series
- bassier sound signature than the Lambda series doesn't lead to ear fatigue as fast
- best sounding headphone
in the world
Cons
- requires a powerful third party amp to sound its best
- extremely
expensive
- regarded often as inferior to the original SR-007
Grado PS1000
vs.
Stax SR-007Mk2
MSRP $999.00
Released August, 2008
Pros
- closed style helps isolate the listener from their world - where external noise may ruin the listening experience
- like the D-5000 can be found much cheaper than official MSRP
- more refined than the AH-D5000 - possible candidate to challenge the best of the best?
Cons
- much more expensive than the D-5000! Almost double!
- may still be poorly put together much like the AH-D5000
- Still non-suiteble for classical and acoustic music. Despite of having more tremble and providing larger stage, than AH-D5000, it's still lack of it in comparison with Audio-Technica ATH-W5000.
Grado PS1000
vs.
Denon AH-D7000
MSRP $999.99
Released November, 2008
Pros
- lifetime warranty
- among the best headphones in the world
- still being sold and serviced - will always come back the same way (unlike some older Stax models, which have drivers that are no longer in production)
Cons
- energizer unit is not the greatest
- uses a different bias voltage than Stax
Grado PS1000
vs.
Koss ESP950
MSRP $1,399.95
Released January, 2009
Pros
- a further improvement of one of the worlds most popular high end headphone series
- largest dynamic driver - extended frequency response
- cable is detachable and easy to replace
Cons
- extremely expensive
- requires high end sources and amplification to sound its best
- Does in fact have some high-frequency resonances.
