The Hauppauge HD PVR is a high-definition video recorder designed to fit between a set-top box (cable, satellite, or other video source) and a home theater PC and add HD recording functionality to your setup. It connects to a set-top box via component video and digital optical audio and compresses the 1080i stream as H.264 to one's PC via USB for recording and playback. It includes and IR blaster for controlling the channel changing of a set-top box. The HD PVR is part of the WinTV-PVR lineup that includes other internal and external PC-based PVR products. The HD PVR is the first to support HD recording. It sells for $249 and is expected to become available in May 1, 2008. The release date was delayed from April.
