Released in August 2007 the Hitachi DZBD70A is the first ever high definition Blu-ray disc camcorder. Shooting at full 1080p the DZBD70A outputs AVC/H.264 codec, a variant of MPEG-4, directly onto a blu-ray disc. For still photographs the DZBD70A is rather poor, only outputting images to an SD/SDHC card in 2400x1800 resolution. Its more expensive brother the DZBD7HA also includes a 30GB hard disk for recording without having to use a Blu-ray disc. Without the internal hard disk however, the Hitachi DZBD70A has better battery life than its advanced brother, at 130 minutes.
