Over the past 2 months the ProductWiki engineers (and founders) have slaved away to enhance the software that powers the website, and provide more services to the community to help making ProductWiki the most useful resource for product information on the web.
The biggest upgrade is the addition of the new Collaborative Review system that is an elegant and innovative way that the community can review products together. This article contains a summary of how it works, check out the full article for more details.
New Features
Collaborative Reviews
- each product will have its own collaborative review
- create one review with many people/viewpoints
- streamlined and easy
OpenID support
- create a new account using your OpenID
- if you're already a member of ProductWiki, associate your old account with your OpenID and login with that
- this feature is very new, if you have any problems please send an e-mail with the details to omar@productwiki.com
Pinning
- highlight the best items that the community has produced
Product gallery view
- now when you click on the products tab you'll see the products shown in an easy to read grid format
- old list view is still accessible from the link at the top that says "list view"
- Your Tapped product list is also now a grid view
- Your list of tapped products can be browsed by category
Product image gallery
- see all the images that have been associated with a particular product in a full and large size
Advanced search
- limit searches to a particular kind of item (products, articles, etc)
- limit search to a particular category and below
Interface upgrades
- tap items as love it, want it, have it directly from the feature list
- classifying articles, links, images and discussions is more streamlined. Instead of typing in a list of tags, specify the main location of the item and what the item is about
- articles, links and images pages have an improved look, that is consistent with the rest of the site
- images on the product page are now larger
- delete your own comments, in the case of double posts, etc
- filter your tapped products by their associated category AND tag
Backend upgrades
- New caching system to handle pages that receive an extraordinary amount of traffic
- improved search results and handling
- various performance improvements
- various CSS and HTML improvements
