ProductWiki Projects

ProductWiki thrives on community contribution. This page serves to concentrate contribution efforts into several projects. The goal is to get as many people as possible helping out so that we can build these sections into really helpful product resources.

There is a discussion set up to help sort out any concerns you have about the projects. If you want to request or add a project, then feel free to do so by editing this article.

Active ProductWiki Projects

The Mountain Bike Project - Started on March 15th, 2006 by Erik

This project's goal is to build up the mountain bike area of ProductWiki. Spring is almost (or already) here and it would be great to help some people figure out what is the perfect bike for them, taking into account their price range.

The Spring Fashion Project - Started on March 15th, 2006 by Amanie

Fashion is ever-evolving. New product lines come out every season, instantly outdating the previous season's collections. Spring is in, and winter is out. Clunky winterwear is being replaced with "spring-like" dresses and bold prints. Help out by sharing your two cents.

The Barbeque Project - Started on March 27th, 2006 by Erik

Actually, this should be called the outdoor cooking project. In Canada and the UK, it's called barbeque, but in the US it's grilling. Let's add all the info we can about BBQ grills, outdoor ovens, smokers, and outdoor fryers we can!

What can you do?

There are many ways you can contribute to ProductWiki. Listed below are some examples, so please help out in any way you can:

Add a product - As our name implies, ProductWiki is comprised of a collection of products. However, the products don't magically appear on our site. They are added by the community as a way of helping out others.

Adding a product is as simple of (1) determining the best name, (2) finding an image, and (3) providing a short description of the item. If you are not sure about anything, or don't have access to all of the information, then don't worry - someone will help you out.

Write an article - Do you have some insight into a particular type of product? Then help everyone out by writing a buying guide. Or if you are more of a do-it-yourselfer, then write a DIY article. This is also a great place to write reviews. Remember, the sky is the limit.

Participate in discussions - If you see a discussion where someone is asking a question and you have some insight, then help them out by responding. Or, conversely, if you have a question then ask it.

Submit a link - If you've found a great site that explains it all, then, by all means, add it to ProductWiki. We don't want to reinvent the wheel, and we can use all the help we can get.

Share a photo - If you own a particular product that's listed on our site, upload an image of it so others can get an idea what an item actually looks like.

How to get started

It helps if you register as a member to ProductWiki. There is no email confirmation, and it only takes 10 seconds. This helps the community organize what's going on. Note: If you absolutely don't want to register, then you can still contribute, but certain forms of contribution will be restricted.

Familiarize yourself with the site. Browse around ProductWiki and see what's lacking and what's already done. Read the help page to help sort out some of the confusion.

Ask questions. Not everything is immediately apparent on the site, so ask a question, and someone will likely respond to you quickly. There is no point in wandering around in a fog, when there are people out there that can help.
