In the wake of news that many major DVD producers (Warner Bros, Sony, MGM, Fox, Disney, and Lionsgate) will be abandoning HD DVD for its high-definition disc rival, Blu-ray, Toshiba announced it was slashing prices of its HD DVD format players by up to 50 percent, effective immediately (Jan.14.2008).
