What are featured & pinned items

Pinned and featured items are products, articles, discussions and links chosen by PW admins to be highlighted to the rest of the community. Before an item can be featured or pinned, it must reach a minimum quality threshold as described below.

pin Pinned

Pinned items represent some of the best content on the site, as chosen by PW admins. These items show off the potential of what ProductWiki is all about and are a fantastic resource. Pinned items can also be things that are on the upper end of the featured scale, and need some extra collaboration from the community to become a comprehensive resource. Pinned items are specially chosen and ProductWiki members who have made a contribution to something that is pinned should be proud of their efforts.

Featured

Featured items are also chosen by PW admins. They are chosen based on a few key points such as their timeliness, quality, and interest. PW admins try to select a variety of featured items in different categories to demonstrate the breadth of products and information covered on ProductWiki.

Criteria

Product
  • Medium to high resolution image
  • Title that follows the conventions of the site and other products in the category
  • Main key features filled in such as Manufacturer and price
  • A summary description that gives a brief overview of the product
    • This should be at least a few sentences, with no real limit, as long as the information is relevant and unique (summaries that are copied and pasted from another source won't be featured)
    • Should not include subjective statements
    • (the words "I", "me", "we", "our", etc shouldn't appear unless the "we" and "our" are used collectively as everybody on Earth)
    • Information regarding reports, commonly known issues or benefits to the product can be mentioned here

Articles & Discussions

Some examples of articles and discussions include: reviews, how-to guides, industry information, essay-like viewpoints

  • These can be subjective
  • Should be relevant to more than a few people
  • Relevant to products in some way
  • Decent English required

I suggest that we change how this works. We're in the midst of setting up an IRC channel (see this discussion), and I think that the community could/should nominate daily pinned and featured items from that channel, with moderators making the final say.
