I personally like early-adds of products, with a few caveats: 1) the report needs to be updated fairly often to stay relevant, 2) the report should have some deeper information over what the gadget blogs like Engadget and Gizmodo have (this can be tough), and 3) the product should be something that will likely be produced (no vapourware, please)
Some of our most successful reports have been early adds (eg. Onkyo TX-SR605). Typically, they do well in the GOOG search results and, subsequently, attract the early adopters *cough*nerds*cough to help collaborate on the report. They're also useful to people trying to stay ahead of the curve.
I say add the "Sony Time Machine" due out in 2098, as long as you're confident it'll be released, keep it up to date, and have some useful info to share. Wait. Maybe you already did...in the future?!?!
