Are Wedges Really that Great?

I know that wedges are so popular now in shoe fashion and that it's definitely on a lot of women's lists for "top shoes to buy this spring." But I just am not sure if these wedges are actually that comfortable. I own a pair, and I don't really wear them. When I saw them on the shelf, they looked great! I tried them on, they fit me, so I bought them. But they're actually really hard to walk in! Maybe it's just me or the shape of my feet, but they seem very clunky. I feel as if I am dragging my feet and my shoes along as I walk. Are wedges actually good for your feet?

I know I'm definitely more traditional and I prefer shoes that didn't have heels that was one big piece. I know I have tiny and not very wide feet, so maybe that's why. But it still doesn't help me understand what the craze is about wedges these days.

Can anyone offer a good explanation?

I know what you mean about the comfort factor. I used to really dislike the look of wedges and eventually they grew on me because they stopped being so clunky and got more of a refined heel (you know how they taper in the middle more now), anyway, I got a pair of wooden heel ones and I've found them to be pretty comfortable. I'm surprised you find heels more comfortable than wedges because I would think the "wedge" would be more accommodating to your feet.

I also think they're a nice day shoe, which is partly why I think they got so popular. Do your wedges have an open back like a slide type shoe? If they don't have a back-strap they might be uncomfortable because you're constantly fighting to keep them on.

I think it's mainly because my wedges don't have a back-strap and also because my feet are so thin! I can't wear a lot of shoes sometimes because they feel so loose and they fall off quite easily. My feet tend to slide from right to left a lot because the shoes are usually too wide for my feet. My mom and my sister wear wedges and are perfectly fine with them, it seems I'm the abnormal one in the family. Sigh.

They're also great because if you live in a city- your heels won't get stuck in the subway grates, or cracks in the sidewalks- it's rather embarrasing and uncomfortable. It's the idea of looking great without as much frustration. I feel some can be horrid looking and others- quite adorable.

I agree with Stylez, some can look amazing. What about these?

Hideous!!! We're not in the 70s anymore ladies, let's get with the times here. As a self-appointed women's fashion guru, open toe is OUT and tennis shoes are back in.

HAHAHA...

I guess there really are nice wedges out there. I have tried on different ones at shoe stores, the problem is, my feet slip out of them so easily! Sigh. I guess I should keep trying!

I've never heard of people having too thin feet! Yours must be teeny tiny! Have you looked at narrow-specific shoes? I've always found high end shoes like Jimmy Choo's really narrow, which, you know is both a blessing and a curse..."I HAVE to get them, they're the only shoes that fit!"

I think that platforms are a much better alternative to the regular heel. Maybe you need to just find a pair of platforms that fit you better, but I hate walking in heels. Platforms are a new way of life!
