I looked forever in the docs that came with my 46hm95 and could not find anything referencing 720p as the native resolution. I began looking because my 46hm95 and my cablebox seem to have conflicts with 720p. Using an hdmi input, I occassionally get audio but no video on 720p networks (ABC, Fox, ESPN) while the unit displays 1080i always and forever whithout a problem. My cable box is the sa8300hd/dvr and I use the hdmi auto setting for the screen parameters. Right now I have the box set to upconvert2 - which converts 720p to 1080i and 480i to 480p.
Where did you find info saying that 720p is the native resolution?

Hi Jon, I found the info saying the native resolution from this spec sheet from the Toshiba website link. There it says "New TALEN 720p with Deep Picture" and "Full 1280x720 Mirrors for enhanced sharpness". It doesn't specifically say Native Resolution = 720p, that's just how I interpreted those specifications I quoted.

Yeah its 1280x720 so its native resolution is 720p.
Setting the cable box to (up)convert to 1080i will be harming your pciture quite significantly, I would suggest getting the box converting everything to 720p - that should get rid of most problems. Most Digital display technologies handle progressive signals (480p, 720p) very well, whilst sending a 1080i signal to the 720p TV will have it downconverting, de-interlacing and resizing.

Actually, theres a suggestion for you - How about a prompt to sign-in when you make a post, It doesnt have to be necessary to sign-in but a reminder/prompt would be nice.

Apparently, forcing the cable box to put out everything at 720p has rid me of all problems. Also since my original post, I began experiencing HD signals being shown as 16:9 inside a 4:3 480i screen size.... yuck!
The following produce the best results for a Toshiba 46HM95 and a Brighthouse Scientific Atlanta S8300HD:
46HM95 - auto aspect ration - ON
S8300HD - via the HD setup screen, remove all resolutions so that only 720P is selected.
S8300HD - picture format - Auto DVI/HDMI
S8300HD - picture size - normal
Arghhh - I wasn't signed in.

Thanks for this information.  I've been using the TV in 1080i all this time and just discovered this thread via Google.  720p is definately better and now all my channels are looking great.

Quick question...my lamp died yesterday, 5 months to the day after I received the television.  I have already contacted toshiba and they are shipping me out a bulb within the next 5-7 business days (GRR!!!).

Anyhooo, I am curious to see how many hours my lamp lasted for (or if it's too late for the old one, at least maybe find a way to track the hours on the new lamp).  Is there a menu somewhere that I'm missign that will give me the number of hours on the lamp, or are people keeping manual count (or at least pretending to) of life hours when they say their lamp failed at 200 hours or 600 hours or 2000 hours?
