Community Call for Help: Operating System Category Housekeeping

So after discussion between, me (duiu/dialupinternetuser/dialup), Erik, and Omar, we decided to clean up the Operating System category and fix up the competitors and related products. You can see much of this discussion here. We decided on a 3-tier system for Windows and Linux. Each tier competes with products in that tier. The tiers are:

Core of Operating System -> Generic Report about Distro/Generation -> Specific OS

Examples:

Linux -> Ubuntu -> Ubuntu 8.04 "Hardy Heron"

Microsoft Windows -> Microsoft Windows XP -> Microsoft Windows XP Professional

As you can see, Hardy Heron would compete with XP Pro, WinXP competes with Ubuntu, and Windows competes with Linux. Apple has a two tier system.

OS-X -> OS X (Insert Animal Here)

We're not sure where Apple's operating systems will fit in. I've been working on these myself, but it's a very large task and it'd be nice if someone could give me a hand. Here is what is done, partially/not-sure-if done, and not done.

I'll finish up the Microsoft Windows, Vista, and OSX reports and classifications.

I'm not too well versed on any of the Linux distros.

Ubuntu is done! I'm not bothering to add the really old releases (i.e. those before Gutsy/7.10)

Ok, here's my suggestion for OSX

we do:

Macintosh->OSX->Leopard,etc

Mac competes with Linux and Windows

OSX competes with Vista, XP, Ubuntu

Leopard compets with Vista Premium, etc

I'll also cleanup the Mac OS'

Dialup, check out the stuff I did with XP Home, Pro, Media Center, and Server 2003. And if that's considered "done" or not.

I wonder if it's good to do this for 'software' in general.  New versions are always coming out that dramatically change the applications.  Sometimes a pro/con might only be specific to a version.

For example we could have a base entry for pidgin the subentries for pidgin releases.

I don't know if this is needed though.  Maybe it would be easier to just alter the pros/cons/writeup for the latest version of the software.
