Yes, it is that time of year! The time to reflect on another 12 wonderful months of product launches - groundbreaking innovation that revolutionizes the way we enjoy our spare time, interact with each other, capture our memories and play them back later on. Here at ProductWiki we're planning on writing up a buyers guide for this holiday season, but we've had a little trouble narrowing it down to individual products - and besides, we're a wiki, so who are we to decide? Sure we could all agree on technical specifications, but value is rather subjective. So we sat down together compiled a few lists, and we've decided to take them to you! Please vote, and let us know what you voted for and why in a comment below! We're planning on closing this poll by midnight on November 16th - so please find the time to vote before then.

Of course you did, which is why the votes have swayed the way they have.  This isnt about the sleekest, sexiest and most popular, it is about the Top Products.  "...groundbreaking innovation that revolutionizes the way we enjoy our spare time, interact with each other, capture our memories and play them back later on."

Very interesting to watch the votes stream in.

@Scrtwlvl: There definitely seems to be some big name brand affinity with Apple and Sony currently leading 6 of the 10 categories. In the case of Apple at least, I think that's fair. It's really amazing how they've built up such dominant leads in the media player, laptop, and now mobile phone markets.

As for the popularity thing, it's kind of the nature of the democratic process. Look at what happens in politics.

Any products that you think we missed in the nomination?

Was the poll based on the greatest number of views of the products in a given category?

I would also suggest Sony A300/A350 for the digital cameras category. Good combination of features for the price.

Other category suggestions: PVR, camcorder, game console.

I made the Wii Fit to my most favourite of 2008. Simply because it's something completely new and promises girls to lose weight by haveing fun with a game console instead of sweating in the gym. What else does a young women want?

Any chance for write-in votes? :)

We were originally considering allowing write-in votes - so sure. Why not? I know at least a couple people wanted World at War on the games list. I played it through, and yeah, I think it deserves a shot. Other categories such as netbooks also could have had a lot of additional entries. I think people should feel free to comment on what they wished was up there - but also why. If there are enough people standing behind a product I might add it, or at least mention it in the guide.

Ah, but it was introduced in 2006 ;)

This is why we avoided consoles - all of these products were launched this year.

Still, have to say the Wii has done quite well for itself. Amazing that there are still shortages!
