Ahhh, I think any modern router that you buy nowadays will be compatible with Xbox Live, and these are really just marketing ploys to attach onto the 360 hype. I suggest picking up a wireless router since the extra cost is so negligible and you're instantly capable of having wireless networking at that point. Netgear and Linksys are the two top manufacturers and they're quite reliable.

I too am having the same problem as one of the earlier guys. I have the correct disc version (i've also checked the laser etching and it passes), I have the lastest dashboard, and Im using Action Replay the transfer the game saves. However, when Im in MA it lists the controls, difficulty, and current level as UNKNOWN. I've tried both version of ltools, even some of the earlier versions, and nothing seems to work. The xbox kernel version is 4034, and I don't know if that is the lastest version or not, but I've recently fired up Halo 2 and connected to Xbox live, but nothing told me I needed to update my box. I have deleted all other MA gamesaves (not the downloaded content however, would that make a difference?). Where do I go from here? Thanks for this great guide, I hope this works for me!

hi, great tutorial, but i have a problem, before your revised it, i used it to succsesfully install XBMC on my xbox, so i then whent to try it on my friends xbox, but I used the revised version and used the ltools_MA_v1.8.rc1.zip version of Itools instead. Everything seems to work correctly the exploit "run linux" works fine, and from their i install and follow all of the instructions, but at that point when everything is supposed to be finished (MXM), when i boot up the xbox it goes back to Itools, and i cannot get it to load up the MXM dashboard. So after reinstalling and trying different options, i decided to check here, i saw the network help area, and i changed ITOOLS to "true" for DCHP and i can access it thru ITOOLS and I then transferred the XBMC files over to E drive, which after that was finished, i restarted the xbox, and this time all that it loads up is the stock xbox dashboard (tried using both buttons to at least load up ITOOLS, but i cant because i made Dashboard_BAK)... and now i come to you for help if u can, and tips or advice would be greatly appreciated.

I would recommend deleting the downloaded content and trying again. You need to delete EVERYTHING having to do with Mech Assault for this to work.
Perhaps this applies to the guys I was talking to yesterday about block size.

Hello, first of all thanks for the guide, I got 90% done with no problems however now I can't get the xbmc to detect my network?? I use a dlink router with DHCP. I tried using Auto DHCP which didnt work then tried assigning the xbox MAC address a static 192.168.0.104, which also did not work. When I boot to MXM the IP address appears with a (DHCP) next to it so I think it is working (I set the <DHCP> tag in mxm.xml to true), however in XBMC I can not connect.... I tried about a million things and have reached a dead end if anyone has some tips I would really appreciate it!

I just want to point out that the MXM dashboard IS the dashboard that ltools exploit uses, therefore after you complete the exploit the dashboard will look exactly the same as when you goto "Run Linux".
ltools is not a dashboard -> ltools is a sweet of tools that includes the MXM dashboard
From what you've described, I believe that you made a change to mxm.xml by following the guide that I wrote, correct? Did you remember to run UXE install again? You should run this first before transferring XBMC to the Xbox. The solution: get to ltools through Mech Assault "Run Linux" and run UXE install.
IMPORTANT NOTE: you can ALWAYS get to the MXM/ltools dashboard (when the exploit is installed) for FTP and UXE Uninstall functionality by turning on the Xbox using the eject button (Mech Assault not required)

Thanks for the great guide Erik! I have tried to get my xbox running linux before and failed, but I now have XBMC up and running. It's great to have a step-by-step guide AND a forum like this with good answers.

Can you ping or FTP into your Xbox with XBMC running? Or is the problem that you can't access your network computers for file streaming using SMB? I'm guess the problem is the latter of the two.
Actually, I have this problem on my personal computer for some unknown reason. What I do (and actually prefer to do) is setup "bookmarks" in the XboxMediaCenter.xml file located at /E/Dashboard/. To edit this file, you must FTP it to your PC then edit it with a text editor, then FTP it back to the Xbox and reboot.
Here is an example of a bookmark to "My Music" on my computer:
<bookmark>
   <name>erik (music)</name>
   <path>smb://erik:mypassword@192.168.0.6/My Music</path>
</bookmark>
Make sure you have a user on your computer setup that can access your folder shares. In my example, user:erik with password:mypassword is accessing "My Music" from my computer at 192.168.0.6
Note: you can actually set up bookmarks within XBMC using your controller, but it's fairly tedious
