While I'm Canadian, and don't keep up much with politics, I definitely think it's going to be republican president again. I keep going back and forth between wanting Gore to run and not. I think he might be having a bigger and better impact on the world as a speaker than anything.
So now I've successfully brought two debate points together, politics AND the environment :P Though it's not that difficult seeing as how the environment is such a big issue now.

I want Gore to run, because he's the only one who has a chance to win in the US against Giuliani. Sad as it may be, America won't have a non-white, non-male President for many years to come. (As I peer into my crystal ball).

What about sending Prince Harry to Iraq? Do you think he should go? Or will it cause more harm than good?

I think this thread is very ironic. Aren't we debating on what to debate? Oh damn, now we're debating on whether or not we're debating on what to debate. Ad infinitum....

I think we should just pick a topic and stick with it. How should we vote? Since silence omo7 started it, he should just pick the debate topic.
(I do want to add something here in response to all the people who think Al Gore should run again. In U.S. politics, if you lose a presidential race once, you don't want to think about running again. Why? Once a loser, always a loser. That's the harsh reality. The one exception was President Grover Cleveland, who served 1 term in 1885 and then came back again to serve another term in 1893. And he was a Democrat. But, I don't think that really points towards anything. The media has also politicized government beyond anything we have ever seen in history. Candidates are now starting their campaigns a lot earlier (ie. look at how the Democrats have already lined up their candidates). In the end, it comes down to whoever has the biggest war chest, and whoever can afford as many ad-buys as possible. In that respect, I think a Clinton/Obama ticket would have a strong chance of running against Giuliani. Giuliani will have the big investment banks and a lot of big businesss sponsoring him, which will make him a formidable opponent. But it makes it an interesting race to watch.)

I think if we debate politics then it will cover most of the controversial topics out there. The environment is a pretty big issue here, plus we can discuss stuff like gun laws, Replublicans and Democrats, third partys for president, will a woman or another race other than white become president in the future, war, and other stuff that pops up. I think this strikes a good balance between everything. Just so we have a clear place to debate, free of comments (so far) I started a new discussion called Debate 1: Politics and other stuff. Enjoy. Lets see if this works well or not. If it does I might do a second discussion.

Silence, when you say politics, do you mean laws, and the Republicans and Democrats, because unless you confirm what specific area of politics you want to debate about since politics is a broad subject, I'm not posting anything on the subject yet.

Could someone answer me this? When I post a reply that I spent a good amount of time typing up, it takes me to a screen that says, "Enter reply here", and when I check to see whether or not I am signed in, it says "Sign in". And when I type these, I am signed in. Could someone please tell me what's up, because it would probably help kill the confusion.
