I would like to give a few thoughts on Zidane. In previous posts it's obvious that Zidane is my favourite player, and one of the reasons I like him so much is because of his professionalism and classiness on and off the field. So what happened? I still don't know 100% for sure, but it seems like Zidane was provoked. Is this justification? Some people would say there is no justification. Personally, I don't think it's that big of a deal. When I first saw the headbutt I was in shock, I couldn't believe it, why would he do this? But after I slept it off, and had some time to digest everything, in the grand scheme of things it doesn't really matter. People get hurt all the time, there have been elbow's thrown (like De Rossi's) and other headbutts (Figo), and all around dirty playing and pushing and shoving (Rooney). And nobody is making really big deals about those.
So here we have one of the greatest players of his time, who consistently wow audiences with his skill and talent, and was the central and leading figure to an incredibly strong team, and one small incident is getting blown up like this? Come on, give me a break. Zidane has had over a dozen incredible years of playing at the international and club level, one 20 second incident isn't enough to ruin all of that, despite what the knee-jerk reactionary media commentators would like to spout off. Other than hilarious animated gifs like the one above, everybody will forget about this after a week. Well, maybe a couple of weeks if the Italian fans ever stop celebrating and honking their horns...
