The Pros:120hz display is useful in regular viewing situations. Powerful components - Core i7 processor, 4GB DDR3 memory standard, dual drive bays, AMD Mobility Radeon HD 5850. Slick, minimalist design - full aluminum body with imprinted patterning on the lid.
The Cons:Extra premium for the 3D may not be worth the extra cost. Active shutter 3D is still a lame technology. Very high price point.
The HP Envy 17 3D is an entertainment notebook set to be released in late 2010. This laptop prominently features 3D technology, as it includes a pair of active shutter glasses for movies and games. While the standard Envy 17 is only available with the Intel Core i7 processor, this edition includes a 240Hz screen in addition to dual-core/quad-core processor options.

DDR3 memory and hard drive storage options will be configurable through the manufacturer's website, allowing users to customize their performance level. The AMD Radeon HD 5850 comes standard, as it's required for 3D entertainment such as three-dimensional Blu-ray disc titles. Up to 3 external displays can be connected via AMD’s Eyefinity technology. This can be especially useful for those who need extra visual real estate for work, or for playing the latest games. HP’s Beats Audio software package is also included.

#hp_envy_17_3d I've had it less than a month and the LCD is bad! HP says I cannot take it to a service center to have it fixed and that I must send it back to HP for warranty work. that will take up to 9 days. I quit buying HP computers 4-5 years ago (gifts and new ones, etc.) NOW I remember why! This is how i like to recover from my previous laptop crash (different brand) just get things setup, and then .blah, blah, blah!
The mouse is horrendously bad and short on nav. features that make sense. like a three finger flick to go back, my three finger won't fit, needless to say it's just bad!
ALSO! the only way to see the exact model number and serial number is to use hp support assistant, so, if you cannot turn on or view hds you cannot answer questions for service. THEY ALWAYS ASK FOR BOTH OF THOSE #s and they are NOWHERE on the external body of the computer!
BEWARE! THIS COMPUTER IS A PRODUCT OF CHINA!!! and NOT JUST ASSEMBLED IN CHINA! I love their food but I would not have bought a computer from China, at least, not for $1600.00
I'm stupid for purchasing direct!
