Intel Core i5-750S

$200.00 Released January, 2010

Product Shot 1 The Pros:Doesn't draw much power while in operation. Compatible with a wide range of motherboards. Generates very little heat, stays cool in PCs running 24/7.

The Cons:Lower performance-per-watt than the regular i5-750. More expensive than the normal i5-750. Turbo Boost won't increase the speed of all cores, only 1 or 2.

The Intel Core i5-750s is a higher-end, quad-core desktop processor. The CPU is a more energy-efficient version of the i5-720, reducing thermal design power from 95W to 82W. The two processors are positioned at the top of the i5 series as its only quad-core members.

Product Shot 2 The i5-750S comes with a reduced clock speed of 2.40 GHz, but can be overclocked to 3.2 GHz like the i5-750, and features an 8MB L3 cache. The CPU is similar to the "S" version of the entry-level model in the top-of-the-line i7 series, the 2.53GHz i7-860S, sharing a Nehalem microarchitecture and Turbo Boost, among other features, but notably disabling simultaneous multithreading technology. The i5-750S also features XD bit, which helps defend against certain viruses, but lacks Trusted Execution Technology, a more advanced safety feature found in dual-core i5-series units.
