MSRP $250.00
Released January, 2009
Pros
- affordable prices compared to Intel's C2Q line
- high performance - like a C2Q for productivity, competes with i7 in games
- cheaper overall system cost (inexpensive motherboards and RAM compared to high end C2Q/i7 for similar performance)
Cons
- early Phenom IIs meant as interm release - only good for those who desire to keep their high performance mainboard, ram etc... upgrading from a higher-end dual core?
- no lower power model - designed for higher performance only

Pros
- support for triple channel DDR3
- latest, fastest architecture
- first Intel processor to have an on die memory controller
- low idle power consumption
- Decent Boxed Cooler
- Backside support of CPU socket with a metal plate to avoid PCB warping
- Very tight fit of CPU in socket
- New Socket with improved cooler mounting method
Cons
- requires a new socket - impossible for people to just upgrade their CPUs
- high TDPs means these chips are very hot and use a lot of power
- not that big of an upgrade for those interested in gaming
- Only insanely-priced 965 XE has unlocked multiplier (Phenom II with unlocked multiplier is available at 1/4 the price)
