First released in 1996, Konqueror is an open source web browser specifically created for the KDE desktop environment - but now available as a stand-alone application on Microsoft Windows, Apple OSX or any Unix variant. Much like Explorer/Internet Explorer, Konqueror can also be used as a fully featured file manager. Highly customizable through panels and keyboard shortcuts, Konqueror includes several high-level browser features such as customizable search keywords, tabs and a fast, standards compliant engine - which was used in 2002 as a base to create Apple's open source webkit browser engine which now powers multiple browsers such as Apple's Safari and Google's Chrome.
