TRENDnet TK-423K

The TRENDnet TK-423K is four port USB and PS/2 KVM switch with audio switching. It is a slightly more advanced version of the TK-409K, adding more indicators, a sturdier design, and PS/2 compatibility. As a trade off for PS/2 compatibility, the TK-423K requires a power adapter, and is not powered over USB. On the bakc of the device there are four VGA inputs, each with a microphone and speaker input. There is one set of VGA and microphone outputs, and then USB and PS/2 keyboard and mouse ports that connect to the shared console controls. The mouse is emulated, so only the KVM switch itself needs to be plugged into the mouse. There are slector buttons on the device to control which computer is being output, and the audio ports can be selected independently of the keyboard, video and mouse. All required cabling is included, and the hardware can be used with any mouse compatible operating system.

Features shared between the two models include micro-cabling that cuts down on clutter by 55% from conventional KVM cabling. As far as administrative features go, the on-screen display gives you the ability to view your servers, as well as switch between them. The only difference between this KVM switch and the higher cost F1DA216Z model is the fact that the F1DA216Z can support up to sixteen computers, while the F1DA208Z can support only eight. As this KVM switch can support both USB and PS/2 computers, a mixed server environment can be created with it. This environment can be monitored by two administrators from two different consoles. Servers can be named for easy reference on the on-screen display. When you need to see the activity on all of your servers at once, the AutoScan feature allows you to. Two IT administrators can monitor their servers at once with this KVM switch. Up to thirty-two servers can be controlled by the F1DP232A, which is the feature that puts it above the F1DP216A model, which can only handle sixteen servers at once. Beyond the amount of servers possible, the two models share many features. BIOS level access is granted to out-of-band users on either model. The on-screen display keeps you in touch with what connections are active at any given time. No matter how many servers you are using at once, video resolution of up to 1600 x 1200 is supported on both KVM switches.

This KVM switch allows you to control two computers with one keyboard, video monitor, and mouse console. This is the main feature that sets this KVM switch apart from the higher cost F1DB104P2-B model, which allows you to control four computers at once. The F1DB104P2-B also comes with a two year warranty that the F1DB102P2-B lacks. On either model, you can switch between computers easily with the manual push button port selection. The fifty-micron gold-plated connectors of this KVM switch help to ensure a clean and clear transmission. When used with coaxial VGA cabling, the Belkin OmniView E Series F1DB102P2-B supports high-resolution display quality.

From the same keyboard, video monitor, and mouse console you can control four computers with the F1DB1042P2-B. The manual push button port selection allows you to switch between computers quickly. When you connect this KVM switch with coaxial VGA cabling, it supports a high-resolution display. This model differs from the lower cost F1DB102P2-B model in that the F1DB102P2-B is only equipped to control two computers at a time. Another feature that sets the F1DB104P2-B apart from its lower cost counterpart is its two year warranty with free technical support.

It is essentially a USB counterpart to the PS/2-based PR-12. As such, it features two sets of USB Type B connectors for PC keyboards & mice, and two VGA connectors for PC display. Like its counterpart, it only supports one console. So it’s basically an entry-level switch designed for managing two computers. More importantly, the UR-12PRO KVM switch is 100% plug and play compatible with all major operating systems, including Windows, Linux, and Macintosh. Plus it requires no power adapter, and it offers hot-key switching for added convenience.

The top unit in the series, the PR-28X KVM switch offers two sets of console ports (keyboard, mouse, display) and eight sets of PS/2 and VGA PC ports (keyboard, mouse, display), meaning that theoretically, a server admin can control 16 systems via 2 independent consoles. Like other switches in the series, the PR-28X KVM switch is compatible with Windows, Linux and Macintosh operating systems. Plus it offers a convenient on-screen display (OSD) menu, backlit push buttons for quickly switching between systems, and integrated Active DDC technology, meaning DDC/EDID information is actively provided to all connected systems at all times.

Features

It upgrades from the original PR-12 by incorporating support for four PCs with PS/2 and VGA mouse / keyboard / display connectors. Plus it adds on an on-screen display (OSD) menu so that users don’t have to rely on just the LED displays to determine which computer they’re currently asking. Like its counterpart, it allows a network administrator to rely on a console keyboard, mouse, and display to quickly ‘hot-key’ switch between PCs. And it doesn’t require a power adapter, as it gets the power it needs directly from the attached computers.

It features eight PS/2 mouse ports, eight PS/2 keyboard ports, and eight VGA graphics ports. It comes with a rack-mount kit designed for mounting on an EIA-19” rack in a computer lab or equipment room. Once setup, it basically reduces the need for cable swapping, thereby reducing costs. Users can use the integrated functions—auto-scan, audible feedback, hot-key, etc.—to quickly manage all their PCs. Unfortunately the TK-801R KVM switch lacks a daisy-chain option. Plus it doesn’t support USB keyboards. However, it can handle multiple operating systems, including DOS, Windows, and Linux.

Features

8-Port KVM Switch

Unlike the TK-801R, which is designed to be used by itself, the TK-802R KVM switch is designed to be stacked together. This is courtesy of integrated daisy chain ports that allow a network administrator to tie together up to 128 computers via 16 TK-802R switches stacked on one another. The basic premise, however, remains the same; there are eight PS/2 mouse ports, eight PS/2 keyboard ports, and eight VGA graphics ports. And like its weaker counterpart, the TK-802R KVM switch hosts several integrated functions for quickly switching from PC to PC.

Features

8-Port KVM Switch

Eight PS/2 Keyboard Ports (6-pin Mini Din)

Eight VGA Graphics Ports (HDB 15-pin)

Mouse/Keyboard/VGA Daisy Chain Ports

Included Rack-Mount Kit

It features sixteen VGA HDB 15-pin PC ports and three console ports: a mouse port, a keyboard port, and a graphics port. Once connected, a network administer can easily switch between PCs via hot keys. Unfortunately there is no daisy chain functionality. However, the TK-1603R KVM switch is compatible with both PS/2 and USB peripherals, which is a plus. It, however, doesn’t support DVI displays. One noticeable weakness is that one can only see which computer is selected by looking at the LEDs. Some higher end models offer an on-screen display.

Features

KVM Switch

The TRENDnet TK-803R is an 8-port USB rack mount KVM switch designed for managing the input and display options for up to eight computers. Unlike the TK-801R, which works with PS/2 devices, the TK-803R KVM switch supports eight USB keyboards, eight USB mouses, and eight VGA displays. The device is essentially a rack-mount solution for easily managing eight computers with minimal cable cluttering. Plus it makes it much simpler for the network administrator to swap cables. Unfortunately, the TK-803R doesn’t support daisy chaining. However, it does include several integrated functions for easy management and high-resolution compatibility for handling modern displays.

Features

8-Port KVM Switch

Eight VGA Graphics Ports (HDB 15-pin)

Included Rack-Mount Kit

Hot-Plug

Auto-Scan

Audible Feedback

Hot Key Operations

Versatile OS Compatibility

It combines the functionality of the TK-801R and TK-803R, in that it supports both USB and PS/2 keyboards and mouses. There are a total of eight USB & PS/2 keyboard ports, eight USB & PS/2 mouse ports, and eight VGA graphics ports that support a resolution up to 2048 x 1536, which means it’s 1080p compliant. Unfortunately there is no daisy chance support, so the TK-804R KVM switch is designed to be used by itself.

The TK-217i is entirely cable based on has no main unit and therefore no mouse emulator. Because of this, each computer connected to the device must be plugged in over USB in order for keyboard and mouse control to function. The TRENDnet TK-217i is powered over USB. It requires no driver installation and is therefore cross-platform. However, the convenience KVM switcher software is limited to Windows and Mac. Linux uses can only switch between computers by using the push-button switch. The TRENDnet TK-217i does not feature audio switching, so each computer still uses its individual audio outputs and connections.

Features

It allows two computers with DVI outputs to be controlled via one DVI monitor. Additionally, paired with each DVI inputs are microphone and stereo 3.5mm cables, and a USB cable, that allows the keyboard and mouse to be switched and controlled via one output console. The TRENDnet TK-214i is entirely cable based, and therefore does not have a built in mouse emulator, which is why each computer must be connected to the TK-214i via USB. The device is powered over USB and does not require any driver installation, so it is therefore compatible with all operating systems. However, there is some additional included KVM switching software that is Windows and Mac only, so that if the user is running one of those operating systems he/she can switch between sources on-screen, instead of with the push button.

TRENDnet TK-404KR

The TRENDnet TK-404KR is a KVM switch, a device intended to be connect four computer systems to one set of user interface. Instead of having multiple computers with its own set of keyboard, mouse, monitor, microphone, and speakers, the KVM switch allows each to be accessed at the push of a button and easily switched between the desired computer for the task at that specific time.

The TK-404KR is designed to allow the user to save time and space by limiting the amount of peripherals needed to operate multiple computers; along that design philosophy, the system itself is small, lightweight, and intended to be mounted on rack within the room of use. Cables are used to connect each of the computers to the KVM switch: three each for every system, one mouse, one keyboard, and one video. While the video port uses a DVI-I connection, the mouse and keyboard are not USB and are 6-pin connections. Resolutions of up to 1600 x 1200 can be transferred through the switch to the single monitor.

Computers connected through the switch can be auto detected and also hot swappable during use. Audio can also be accessed independently of video, an example being playing music from one computer while accessing on a text document on another. Switches between computers can either be done by a designated hotkey on the keyboard, or manually with buttons on the front panel of the TK-404KR. LEDs are used to signify the status of each system: currently being accessed, online, offline. Supported operating systems for Microsoft Windows stop at the XP versions. Although a more recent OS may work, they are not officially supported.

This model does not allow for speakers or a microphone to be connected the connected computers, but it does allow for a grand total of 16 computers to be accessible at the same time.

KVM switches are designed to save time and space for the user by requiring only one set of user interface devices instead of having one set each for every computer system. The TK-1601R has 16 sets of three connections for each computer: a 6-pin keyboard connection, a 6-pin mouse connection, and a 15-pin VGA connection. Each connection requires a supplemental cable to connect the KVM switch and the computer instead of the actual mouse, keyboard, and monitor. It is also important to note that these connections are not USB. Once connected, the switch is capable of displaying each of the computer's outputs, one at a time, at a maximum of 1920 x 1440 resolution.

A hotkey can be designated on the keyboard of switching between computers, or the switch can be done by manually selecting the desired computer on the front panel of the KVM switch. LEDs are used to display the status of each computer whether it be currently in use, online, or offline. Plug and Play is available for operating systems that support it. The switch only officially supports Microsoft Windows up to the XP versions, more recent releases may or may not work.

Specifications and Features

Designed to save space and time, the TK-401R is a small, lightweight device that is recommended to be mounted on rack within the room of use.
