LaCie 4big/5big Spare Drive

As the product name suggests, the LaCie 4big/5big Spare Drive is a spare drive for any of the 5big Network and 4big Quadra, two of the units in LaCie's pro-level line of RAID storage. Spare drives are available in capacities of 500 GB, 1 TB, 1.5 TB, and 2 TB, and include drawers. They can be inserted in one of the five bays of the 5big Network, or one of the 4big Quadra's four bays, to increase storage space or replace a failed drive of equal or lesser capacity. Keeping a spare drive in case of drive failure would enable quick hot-swapping for minimal disruption of workflow. The main unit must be operating in RAID 1 mode, however, for hot-swapping and quick data reconstruction to be possible.
