The LaCie LaCinema Rugged HD is a multimedia external USB hard drive designed with portability in mind. Like other multimedia hard drives, the LaCinema Rugged HD has an HDMI output, as well as composite video, however, with a shell developed by designer Neil Poulton, the LaCinema Rugged HD is scratch-proof and easy to transport to friends', family and coworker's houses. The LaCinema Rugged HD ups its counterpart, the LaCinema Rugged, by adding the ability to output at full 1080p, rather than 1080i. The LaCinema Rugged HD will upconvert SD video to 1080i, if connected to a television via HDMI. The LaCinema Rugged comes with a remote control and an additional shock-resistant rubber sleeve to help protect the drive from the elements in all conditions. It is only available in 500GB, not 250GB or 320GB, like the Rugged.
