The Lenovo G570 is a mid-range to high-end notebook laptop similar to the Lenovo G470. The sole difference between the two laptops is screen size--the G570 boasts a 15.6" LCD display, the G470 a 14" display. Apple MacBook Air 13-inch

The Apple MacBook Air 13-inch (2011) is a high-end laptop that is essentially an upgrade of Apple's 11" MacBook Air model; the 13" model features a larger screen, a more powerful processor, a greater amount of installed RAM, and of course more storage space.

The Apple MacBook Air is designed to provide both portability and function; the form factor is similar to a netbook while the installed hardware allows it to be as powerful as a laptop computer. The Apple MacBook Air can be customized by the consumer when ordering (there are two distinct 13" models), the installed hardware can either be more powerful, or individual upgrades can be sacrificed for a lower price tag.

The MacBook Air includes 128GB-256GB flash storage (depending on model purchased), and is powered by a 1.7GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 processor combined with 4GB 1333MHz DDR3 RAM. For graphics and enhanced visuals the MacBook Air also includes an integrated Intel HD Graphics 3000 processor with 384MB DDR3 shared memory. Additional MacBook Air features include an integrated FaceTime HD camera, a built-in SD Card slot, WiFi 802.11n support, Bluetooth 4.0 wireless functionality, and of course complete customization and hardware installation options (better hardware means a higher price tag).

The 13" MacBook Air display features a native resolution of 1440 x 900, and an aspect ratio of 16:10 or 4:3 (depending on operating resolution selected). Also included is the Thunderbolt port, a unique data transfer technology that allows pairing with Thunderbolt enabled devices that is designed to allow simultaneous peripheral use through a single port.

The 2011 MacBook Air model includes several alternate features from the previous Air model such as a thinner form factor, an Intel Core i5 processor as opposed to the Core 2 Duo, an Intel HD 3000 graphics adapter with shared memory as opposed to the Nvidia GeForce 320M, and Bluetooth 4.0 functionality as opposed to Bluetooth 2.1+EDR. It's worth noting that the highest model available for the older MacBook Air laptop can be purchased for nearly the same price as the lowest model of the new MacBook Air.

The successor to Apple's consumer laptop iBook line, the MacBook has become popular with students and home users. The Sony VAIO S Series VPCSB11FX is a laptop designed to be thin and portable. This model comes before the Sony VAIO S Series VPCSB1AGX, which increases HDD access speeds, memory, main CPU speeds and has a faster video processor. The Samsung 9 Series is a compact, lightweight 13.3” laptop released in 2011. It is made from Duralumin, a premium material twice as strong as aluminum, yet no heavier than 3-lbs total. Featured is an Intel Core i5 1.4GHz CPU, 4GB of DDR3 RAM, and a 128GB solid state drive. As for the screen, it’s LED-backlit and capable of a 100,000:1 contrast ratio and 400-nit brightness. Plus it offers a 160-degree viewing angle for added convenience. Signature are the connectivity options, which include Wi-Fi, built-in WiMax, Bluetooth 3.0, Ethernet, HDMI, and USB. The Dell Inspiron 1525 released at the beginning of 2008, is a 15.4" laptop that is the successor to the Inspiron 1520 and is intended to be a mainstream laptop for budget-minded people. Compared to the 1520 the 1520 sees a 20% reduction in size and drops around half a pound to come in at 6 pounds, about standard for this price-range and size. From a specifications perspective it's the standard fare with Core 2 Duo processor and integrated graphics - it must be noted that there's no option for discrete graphics cards - with a 1280x800 resolution screen. The MacBook Pro is Apple's top of the line laptop computer meant for the power user who needs the more capable hardware. These laptops contain faster processors, larger hard drives, and more RAM than the regular mainstream MacBooks. The MacBook Pros are also larger coming in at 15" and 17" varieties, along with the brushed steel casing, where the regular MacBooks are constructed out of hard plastic.

On June 5th 2007, Apple upgraded the MacBook Pros to make use of Intel's new Santa Rosa platform. Santa Rosa is the latest generation of Intel's Centrino lineup which is the moniker that Intel has given a suite of technologies for laptops that use its chips. Santa Rosa indicates the use of the Intel Core 2 Duo processor, a new chipset that includes a faster and more dynamic front side bust to increase speed and lower power consumption, and a new wireless network adapter that can communicate on the A/B/G/N protocols. The most recent wireless N protocol increases speed over the previous G standard by up to five times, while increasing connection area by two times.

Many Centrino based notebooks make use of Intel's own graphics processing technology which is less powerful than a dedicated solution. However, the MacBook Pros use the nVidia GeForce 8600 graphics processor which is capable of playing any modern game and even graphic intensive production software. For the 15" model Apple is also introducing an LED backlight for the first time in an Apple laptop. Using an LED system Apple claims that battery life is extended by 30 minutes to an hour depending on the context, and startup time is improved. The overall brightness of the display, and the viewing angle remain the same as the conventional lighting system used on the older models, and the current 17".

The fifth generation Apple Macbook Pro was announced and released on October 14, 2008. New to the Macbook Pro line, over the 4th generation, is the inclusion of a multi-touch glass trackpad (no mouse button) with new gestures for app switching, Macbook Air aluminum stylings, and a glossy screen similar to the last iMac computers. The Macbook Pro has been slimmed down slightly, no coming in at 0.95 inches thick, but is now slightly heavier at 5.5 lbs. The Macbook Pro has a new internal structured, rumoured to be called "brick", that includes room for NVIDIA's 9400M GPU + chipset and a supplemental 9600M GPU. There are three Macbook Pro options available: 1) 15.4" LED, 2.4 GHz Core 2 Duo, 2GB DDR3 RAM, bot GPUs for $1999, 2) same as option 1, but upgrades to 4 GB of RAM, and a 320 GB hard drive for $2499, and 3) a 17" LCD with a 2.6 GHz CPU starting at $2799. Updated in early 2009 at MacWorld, the 17" model was updated to a unibody build. The standard build now includes: 17" LED-backlit 1920x1200 LCD, 320GB 5400RPM SATA drive, and 4GB of DDR3. Excitingly, the build remains at the $2799 price point - and while the battery is now non-removable, it is rated for an amazing 7-8 hours depending on which GPU is in use.

The IdeaPad Z360 is a mainstream multimedia laptop from Lenovo, released in June 2010. This computer features a 13.3-inch widescreen display, Nvidia GeForce 315M graphics and Intel Core i3, i5, or i7 processor choices. While this laptop is designed handle a wide range of media, it remains relatively thin at 1.2-inches thick. Compared to the IdeaPad Z560, this notebook has a smaller screen by about 2 inches and weighs approximately one pound less. The Dell XPS M1330 is an ultraportable performance laptop that's part of the XPS line of notebooks which focus on power and features. The 13.3" screen is LED backlit based which allows for a slimmer profile. Similar to other laptops in this price range, the M1330 is built on Intel's Santa Rosa platform which includes the Core 2 Duo processor, integrated B/G/N wireless, and Bluetooth. A separate video card, the nVidia GeForce 8400M GS, is available as a configuration option as an upgrade over the standard integrated graphics.

Whether a separate video card is used Dell is including an HDMI output port for connecting the computer to various display units. The Asus NX90JQ is a high-end 18.4" entertainment laptop. It first attracted attention at CES 2010 for its distinctive, though less-than-portable design, featuring dual trackpads and Bang & Olufsen speakers above and on either side of the screen, and will be released alongside the 15.6" N53JQ and 17.3" N73JQ in late summer. The range of available components is mostly identical across the three models, all intended to provide exceptional performance for a notebook computer. The Asus G73JW is a high-end 17.3" gaming laptop released in fall 2010 as an upgrade to the original G73. The G73JW mainly offers enhanced 3D-ready graphics, via one of Nvidia's new DirectX 11-optimized mobile Fermi cards. Both the G73JW and the 15.6" G53JW utilize the 1.5GB GDDR5 GeForce GTX 460M. Lenovo ThinkPad Edge 13

The Lenovo ThinkPad Edge Laptop is expected to be released into the market by the end of 2009 or early 2010. This lightweight laptop is supposed to have a 13.3” high definition display. There are reports that 2 versions of the ThinkPad Edge will be released - one with an AMD processor and the other with an Intel processor. Again, for the AMD processor, there is supposed to be a choice between Turion X2 L625 1.6GHz processor and Athlon Neo X2 L325 1.5GHz processor. Even the Intel gives a choice between Pentium SU4100 1.3GHz and Core 2 DUO SU7300 1.3GHz processors. Other features are expected to be common with a 4GB RAM, a maximum of 500GB hard drive, Windows 7 OS, with 32-bit and 64-bit options. WiFi and Ethernet connectivity are both supposed to be offered. Even Bluetooth and WWAN might make it into this laptop. GPS support is anticipated too. Three USB ports, a media card reader, an HDMI output and a webcam are also expected to be present in this notebook. The battery is said to be either a 4-cell or a 6-cell one. The Lenovo ThinkPad Edge Notebook is expected to weigh just 1.6kg. In the US, it is speculated to be priced at $550.

The HP Envy 15 laptop, with its 15.6 inch screen, is the smallest of the new HP Envy line. Dell Inspiron 15R

The Dell Inspiron 15R was released in 2011 as an upgrade from the Inspiron 15R (2010). It changes by adding support for Sandy Bridge Processors, which are 2nd generation Intel Core CPUs with more processing and performance power. The Inspiron 15R also adds USB 3.0 interfaces for accessing USB 3.0 flash drives that are faster than their USB 2.0 predecessors, Bluetooth 3.0 for better Bluetooth connectivity with peripherals, and a high definition web camera that can more accurately capture video. The display is still 15” and with the same 720p resolution capability. However, users now have the option of adding along a third-party AMD or Nvidia graphics card so they can play 3D games with their laptop. The biggest change is that the lid has become removable. Users can remove it and replace it with one of 25 other separately purchased lids of various colors and designs.

Its most evident improvement is its aluminum lid and palm rests while also boasting a thinner chassis at just under an inch. Additionally, the 2011 13z boasts Sandy Bridge processor options and USB 3.0 ports over the 2010 model.

The Inspiron 13z's aluminum lid and palm rests allow it to better hold up to everyday use and abuse with the palm rests in particular warding off discoloration that can occur with plastic chassis. Another way in which the 3750 upgrades from its predecessors, in particular the other three aforementioned models, is that it also supports an optional Nvidia GeForce card that performs better than the AMD Radeon on the 3350, 3450, and 3550. The Lenovo Thinkpad Edge E520 replaces the Edge 15 as Lenovo's entry level 15.6'' business notebook. It is equipped with Intel's second generation Core i processors, DDR3 memory, and AMD HD6630M switchable graphics. Other features include a slot-load DVD driver, 7 in 1 media card reader, and HDMI output. Even though it is under the Thinkpad brand, the Edge series shares little in common with the top of the line T and W series besides styling and the iconic red trackpoint. In a nutshell, it is a consumer media notebook wrapped in the traditional Thinkpad styling. That said one of the few things it does retain from the Thinkpad brand is its keyboard, which has had good review. All in all, the E520 is a good option for buyers looking for a solid notebook that has capable performance at a reasonable price. Business users should look at T or W series for a true business notebook.

Introduced on October 14th 2008, the 6th generation MacBook included a revolutionary redesign rather than standard evolutionary update process that is seen with previous generations. This redesign brings the MacBook closer to the MacBook Pro in almost all respects, and forced Apple to play the dangerous game of removing key standard features such as Firewire in order to artificially influence consumer and prosumer buying patterns. Due the wide variety of updated (specific updates are listed below) the price of the MacBook – one which usually remains static even when updates are released - has also been updated. The price has now gone up across the board: with two versions of the aluminum MacBook coming in at $1299 and $1599, Apple has also included an older style plastic MacBook for those uninterested in the enhanced version and its higher cost. For $999 users get what appears to be a 5th generation MacBook – with 1GB of DDR2, a 120GB drive and Intel GMA 3100 graphics.

Features

A completely redesigned all aluminum enclosure is the first major change. This change is mainly aesthetic but also frees MacBook users from plastic that gets brittle, discolours or cracks. This also allows internal components to wisp away heat through the case more easily.

The MacBook gets an upgraded LED backlight - a feature already found on the MacBook Pro. This backlight uses less energy (extends battery life), produces darker blacks, does not contain mercury, and doesn't dim over time like regular CCFL backlighting.

A new glass multi-touch trackpad similar now to those on the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro is included. This update gives users a larger, nicer feeling trackpad with advanced functionality which accepts multi-finger touch commands much like the iPhone and Ipod Touch.

DDR3 Ram is now available for laptops, and is being used in the aluminum MacBooks. This RAM is faster than previous DDR2.
