The LC2 sofa was designed by Swiss architect and writer, Charles-Edouard Jeanneret, also known as Le Corbusier, a name he coined for himself. Corbusier was committed to the modern movement and designed this sofa in 1928. The original idea was that it could fit in well on luxury cruise ships, perhaps at the time thinking that people would find the structure too metallic for a home. The concept behind the design is that the external structure of the sofa sits on the outside, working more like a basket for the cushioned seating surface.
