The Lexmark T640 is a midrange monochrome laser printer with an array of features and options aimed at office users. Unlike in Lexmark's newest models, network and duplex printing are not built-in, but can be optionally added. In tests, the T640 reached print speeds lower than the advertised 35 ppm, but on par with rivals, with a time-to-first-page of 6 seconds. The 64MB standard memory can be expanded to 576 MB, while the 6,000-page cartridge can be replaced with a 21,000-page high yield version; the multipurpose feeder and input tray can also be expanded in multiple ways. The T640 supports a number of security protocols and enables confidential printing as each person in an office can be assigned a 10-digit PIN which must be entered before a document prints. Other features include a USB port that allows PDF documents to be printed from a flash drive.
