LG 55LE5500

$2,799.99 Released June, 2010

Product Shot 1 The Pros:SD programming is upscaled gracefully, doesn't look grainy or dramatically poor compared to HD. Self-calibration takes care of all the settings properly, no tweaking really required. TruMotion accounts for almost all of the ghosting effects.

The Cons:Some ghosting is noticeable when the screen is dark. Fast-moving subjects show more significant ghosting regardless of lighting. Advertised wireless capabilities not actually available, need a separate proprietary WiFi dongle.

The LG 55LE5500 is 55 inch LED LCD high definition television set to be released sometime in 2010. LED televisions maintain a higher dynamic contrast ratio, resulting in deeper distinction between dark areas on the screen and a richer visual display while still keeping a slim television design.

Product Shot 2 The television combines this LED technology with a new addition to LG's 2010 releases: LED Plus, which allows for higher picture quality by adjusting 16 addressable segments on the display to tailor picture quality. In addition to a 55 inch display with full 1080p resolutions, the 55LE5500 includes a connectivity package of DLNA compatibility, an Ethernet jack, and access to NetCast Entertainment which opens up such services as Youtube, Netflix, and Skype to be used directly on the television. Wireless functionality can also be expended to Blu-Ray players, cable and satellite receivers, and video game systems to avoid using wires to connect them with the television. Power consumption is also addressed with a sensor that detects light levels in the television's environment and automatically adjusts the brightness of the screen accordingly to only use the amount of energy that is required for the room.
