The Linksys WRT54GL is a Linux-based Wireless-G Linux Broadband Router created specifically for ‘hobbyists and wireless aficionados.’ A child of the WRT54G series, the WRT54GL is a reissue of version 4 of the original, built primarily to support third-party firmware based in Linux. Like the original, the WRT54GL complies with both 802.11g and 802.11b (2.4GHz) standards. Plus, it utilizes enhanced security with Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA2), ensuring one’s network is never hacked into. Most notable about the WRT54GL is its enhanced Internet Security Management Functions, including Internet Access Policies and Time Schedules. This provides the network engineer with the power to configure his or her network down to every little spec. Additional features of the Linksys WRT54GL router include MDI/MDI-X for no crossover cables, a browser-based configuration utility, and an access filter for controlling exactly who connects to your wireless network. The Linksys WRT54GL retails for $69.95 and comes with a 1 year limited warranty.
