The Lotus flower has many meanings in different religions.  In Egyptian mythology, the lotus flower symbolizes the sun, of creation and rebirth.

The Christian alternative to the lotus is the white lily which, relating to Mary as queen of heaven, signifies both fertility and purity. The Indian's version Lotus flower is a symbol of divinity, fertility, wealth, knowledge and enlightenment.  In Buddhism, it is one of the eight symbols of good fortune. The lotus flower is a symbol of purity of the soul within the material world; which rises upward toward the light through muddy water.
