Magnetic Vases

These magnetic vases were designed by Shalar Peleg, an Israeli designer who challenges the observer by creating optical illusions through his products. The magnetic vases are made of thin anodized aluminum pipes, each having a small magnet attached to the bottom. Each vase also comes with a corresponding metal base which can be placed under a table cloth or runner. Once the vase is placed on top of the metallic base, the illusion is that the thin pipes are almost floating atop the table, creating an enigmatic look when placed with multiple vases together. The vases can hold water for real flowers and stand at 9 inches tall and 0.5 inches wide.

Details

Although the original magnetic vase was designed by Shalar Peleg and is sold throughout the US, Singapore, and Japan, the do-it-yourselfers at Curbly created a video to demonstrate how you can create these vases on your own with some simple plumbing pipes, superglue and magnets.

It's cool that you can do it yourself, but the original isn't that expensive if you get 5 vases for $45.
