This title is the sequel to the previous two &lt;em&gt;Way of the Samurai&lt;/em&gt; games originally released on the PlayStation 2 platform. This game occurs within the Sengoku period (15th - 17th centuries), which is historically known as the &amp;quot;Warring States period.&amp;quot; The plot revolves around a new feudal lord, who has recently rose to power through a violent overthrow of his predecessor. As a ronin (masterless samurai) the player is directly involved in the story by choosing detailed dialog options which can result in 1 of 22 different endings. &lt;em&gt;Way of the Samurai 3&lt;/em&gt; also implements a companion system, allowing the player to choose from numerous non-playable female characters to help them complete tasks at hand, such as making sticky rice cakes. &lt;em&gt;Way of the Samurai 3&lt;/em&gt; was released on October 13th, 2009.&lt;/p&gt;
