2007 Chevrolet Aveo

General Motors is one of the biggest companies in the world selling millions of cars globally under a swath of different brands. The Aveo marketed under the Chevrolet brand is a recent entry to the subcompact field by GM to compete with offerings by Honda and Toyota in the Fit and Yaris respectively. Created by GM's Korean subsidiary Daewoo the Aveo is available in almost all markets around the world, though it comes in different names. In North America the Aveo is available as a 4-door sedan, and a 5-door hatchback known as the Aveo5. The Aveo5 comes in the low-priced Special Value trim, and an upgraded LS trim. while the Aveo sedan is offered in a base LS trim and the higher end LT trim.

For 2007, the Aveo has undergone significant changes from 2006 increasing the quality of material in the interior, and expanding the overall size of the car. However, the car is still built on the same fundamental architecture and design as the 2006 model. While some of the other manufacturers have opted for sportier styles and handling, Chevrolet intends the Aveo to provide a more comfortable ride with a "big car" feel. Also sold as the Pontiac Wave and Suzuki Swift.

All North American models are powered by the same 1.6 liter four cylinder engine that produces 103 horsepower. All models also offer the same five speed manual transmission as standard, or an optional four speed automatic transmission.

Despite the hatchback nature of the Aveo5 the amount of cargo space with the rear seats up is actually less than the sedan's cargo space with the Aveo5 coming in at 7.0 cubic feet, and the sedan at 12.4 cubic feet. With the rear seats folded down, with the 60/40 split, the amount of cargo space in the 5-door increases to 42.0 cubic feet.

Difference in trims

Aveo5 Special Value ($10,560) - The base model for the Aveo5 contains very little extra features with no air conditioning. Runs on 14 inch steel wheels, and contains a four speaker stereo system. On the safety side front and side airbags are standard with anti-lock brakes being optional.

Aveo5 LS ($12,425) - Adds various features such as air conditioning.

Aveo LS ($12,575) - Shares many of the same features as the Aveo5 LS and upgrades the stereo system to add an auxiliary input jack to speaker system for mp3 player playback.

Aveo LT ($14,075) - Wheels are upgraded to 15" aluminum. Cruise control, remote keyless entry, power windows are all added features. And the stereo system gets two more speakers with CD playback.

Chevrolet revises the 2006 Cobalt lineup, ditching the Base trim in favor of LS, LT sedan, and a new premium LTZ version (sedan only) for the volume models. Also new this year are SS coupes and SS sedans with a 171-horsepower, 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine under the hood, special exterior trim, 17-inch wheels, four-wheel-disc antilock brakes, and performance suspension tuning. The hot SS Supercharged coupe from last year returns for 2006. Majestic Amethyst and Laser Blue are the new colors this year.

After the successful launch of the 9-3 Cabrio and sedan, Saab is gearing up for yet another addition to the lineup in the form of a sport wagon. A concept version of this upcoming addition was unveiled at this year's Frankfurt International Motor Show. With a shape inspired by the earlier Saab 9-3X concept, Saab further refined the idea into the 9-3 Sport-Hatch concept. Intended to blur the lines between traditional wagons and hatchbacks, the Sport-Hatch is less radical than the 9-3X, but no less appealing thanks to its swoopy exterior shape and more useful configuration. In very Saab-like fashion, the five-door "fastback" is powered by a 2.0-liter turbo engine which rated at 250 horsepower. Expect to see a production version of the Sport-Hatch later next year.

Chevrolet is currently working on a revamped Impala that will most likely appear for the 2006 model year. It won't be a full-scale redesign just a mild refresh, but both the front and rear ends should see noticeable styling changes. Not much is expected to change underneath the sheet metal, but the interior may get some much needed upgrades

Chevrolet's large pickups are mostly unchanged for 2006, awaiting redesigned replacements due as early 2007 models. This report covers half-ton 1500-series Silverados in regular, extended, and Crew Cab models. Extendeds have rear-hinged back doors that don't open independently of the fronts; Crew Cabs have four conventional doors. Both include a 3-person rear bench seat and offer front bucket seats as well as a bench. Regulars and extendeds offer 6.6- and 8.0-ft Fleetside cargo beds or a 6.6-ft Sportside flare-fender box. Crews use a 5.8-ft Fleetside box and roughly match short-bed extendeds in overall length.

Chevrolet has made significant mechanical and styling upgrades to its Monte Carlo coupe this year. The major mechanical change is the introduction of a trio of new engines. Last year's normally aspirated engines were fuel-efficient but not particularly sporty. They've been replaced by two new V6s with variable valve timing.

For this, the current Suburban's last year on the market, Chevrolet adds a new LTZ model to the lineup. The LTZ includes a 6.0-liter V8 making 335 horsepower, an all-wheel-drive system rather than the usual part-time two-speed transfer case, 20-inch wheels wearing 55-series rubber and fronting a Z55 suspension setup, and unique trim inside and out. The Suburban LTZ comes painted in black, red, blue, silver, or white. The LTZ includes the same list of features as the LT, with one unique option called the Sun, Sound, and Destinations Package, which bundles a power sunroof with a navigation system and a Bose in-dash CD changer with XM satellite radio. Speaking of XM, its antenna is now integrated with the OnStar telematics for a cleaner appearance. Also new, on Suburban 2500,are heated, extending camper mirrors with a convex "spotter" feature. All 2006 Chevrolet Suburbans are equipped with a tire pressure monitoring system.A redesigned Suburban is due in showrooms for the summer of 2006.
