The Motorola Atrix 4G is a high-end smartphone running Google's Android operating system. The Motorola Triumph is a smartphone that runs Google's Android 2.2 operating system. It is only available on the Virgin Mobile US network as a pre-paid device. With a Qualcomm snapdragon processor, 4.1 inch display, and 2GB of built-in memory it is a step ahead of most pre-paid smartphones in the US market. It is interesting to see Motorola adopting Qualcomm processors as opposed to the Texas-Instruments OMAP processors that have used in so many of their Android devices. Released on July 15 2010, the "Droid X" (development codename "Shadow") is Motorola's successor to Motorola's wildly successful high-end Android smartphone Droid. The Motorola Droid (development codename "Sholes") is powered by Android, an operating system developed by the Open Handset Alliance to provide an open Linux Kernel platform for independent developers. This means that there is a whole realm of unique widgets, programs and features that can't be found on a traditional Windows based operating system. The Droid takes full advantage of this, providing top of the line hardware to back it up. It has a large 3.7-inch 854 x 480 pixel screen and a 5-megapixel camera that comes with flash, auto focus and video recording capabilities. The GPS, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.0 and 3.5mm headphone jack are only to be expected for the Motorola Droid phone. The Motorola W375 is an entry-level flip phone, similar to the W220 but with several upgrades. The main updates are that it is tri band receptive, and that it now includes a VGA camera with up to 4x digital zoom. It also has 1.5MB of internal memory to store photos. The Motorola MILESTONE is the international (GSM) version of the original US-based Motorola Droid (November 2009, Verizon Wireless). It was released in Germany through O2 and Vodafone, then in Canada through the Telus Network in 2010, and then later on throughout the rest of the world. Unlike the Droid, MILESTONE is equipped with support for HSPA rather than EV-DO Rev A. The V9 also has less on-board memory than the V8, down to 45MB from 512MB, but the V9 has a microSD card reader to expand up to 2GB.

The Motorola Milestone 2 is the successor to the original Milestone from 2009. It hosts a faster 1GHz OMAP SOC processor, more internal memory (8GB), and a redesigned keyboard with bigger keys and a more efficient layout. The Motorola Bravo is one of three Android 2.1 (Éclair) powered smartphones (Bravo, Flipside, Flipout) released in late 2010 through AT&T Wireless. All three models feature both Éclair and the latest version of the MotoBlur user interface. However, unlike the Qwerty-featuring Flipside and Flipout, the Bravo features a 3.7" (480x854) touchscreen display with multi-touch functionality. Also included is an 800MHz TI OMAP 3610 CPU, DLNA support for media streaming from/to devices (PCs, TVs), and a 3MP camera with digital zoom and autofocus. Signature though is the support for remote data wipe, meaning the Bravo is a potential choice for business owners/users, though clearly not as optimal as a Blackberry or Droid Pro.

Motorola Droid Devour (Calgary)

The Motorola Droid Devour (development name "Calgary") is a slider smartphone developed by Motorola and released into the Verizon Wireless network in 2010. Unlike the Motorola Droid, the Droid Devour features a lower-resolution screen, but it does maintain its peer’s QWERTY keyboard. It’s based on the Android 1.6 operating system, but it also incorporates Motorola’s MotoBLUR interface, allowing users to sync all their social-networking data without having to login or open separate applications. Unfortunately, the Devour is limited to the slower CDMA/EVDO networks for voice and data transmissions; plus, it doesn’t include a SIM card slot, making it especially unfriendly for global travelers. Additional features include built-in GPS and Wi-Fi connectivity, a 3MP camera, and microSD memory expansion.

Motorola Charm

The Motorola Charm is an Android-powered, candybar smartphone with a QWERTY keyboard released through T-Mobile in summer 2010. It’s the first Android 2.1 (Éclair) phone to run alongside Motorola’s Motoblur (UI 1.5), and it’s the first of its type to employ a “backtrack” form factor with a touchpad mounted on the backside of the phone. The improved Motoblur interface brings with it improved social-networking integration (Facebook Life, Twitter Retweet) and access to the Android Market Place (which was not offered on the Kin). Critics especially hail Motorola’s choice to unroll on the T-Mobile network, as their HSPA+ 3G services were getting ready at the time (2010) to cover more than 100 major markets. One limiting factor though is the small 2.8” QVGA display like the FlipOut, though it too offers multitouch capabilities. It retails for $269.99 without contract (and presumably unlocked).

The Motorola Oasis is a comfort-based, mono Bluetooth headset designed to be very comfortable. The IHF1000 is a Bluetooth car kit from Motorola that is designed for taking hands-free calls. The Motorola W377 is an entry-level flip phone, nearly identical to the W375. It is still tri-band receptive and has the exact same dimensions, camera, built-in FM radio, external indicators and mp3 playback. Its only updates include a large increase in memory size, up to 10MB from 1.5MB, and the inclusion of Bluetooth wireless technology to allow for wireless headset or headphone use. The increased memory also means that the W377 can hold up to 500 contacts in its phone book, as opposed to only 100 in the W375. Battery length is roughly the same.

Motorola KRZR K3

The Motorola KRZR K3 is still slim and stylish like its predecessor, the K1. Many of its features are the same, but the K3 is 3G enabled. It still includes a 2-megapixel camera with 8x zoom, MPEG4 video capture and playback. It is capable of Internet browsing with a built-in Opera based browser. Battery life is somewhat shorter than the K1, but the internal memory has been upgraded from 20MB to 50MB. Other upgrades include voice commands and a secondary VGA camera for video calling. Overall, the KRZR K3 is a more up to date version of the K1, and fills the same role as a stylish and versatile phone enabled for the expanding 3G generation of phones.

The Motorola A3100 is Motorola's high-end smartphone entry. It is significantly different from the previous smartphones in the A Series. The A3100 is 3G-network enabled, and has Wi-Fi connectivity. The Motorola A1800 is an upgraded version of the A1200 smartphone, and nearly identical to the A1600, released several months earlier. The A1800 features the same transparent flip cover theme as the A1200. It also has a color touch screen with stylus, and recognizes handwriting and voice. It also has PDA capabilities, such as an organizer, mp3 player, document viewer, photo editor and more. The A1800's camera is the same as the A1600, with 3.15 megapixels and autofocus. It is still GPS-enabled, and the only noticeable upgrade is the inclusion of another radio receive, to connect to two networks simultaneously. Like the A1200 and A1600, the phone was designed for the East Asian market, but is unlockable and can be used in other regions.
