I have had this card since 2004. I remember the first 2 years out of University, they kept contacting me every month to sign up saying that I was pre-approved due to my Guelph Engineering Alumni status.

Why I love my MBNA card:

They offered me a $10,000 limit right off the bat. The only other credit card I have had was a TD VISA. I did all my banking with them and they were very unwilling to increase the $2000 limit I had since entering University, so I canceled this card when I got my MBNA.

Since 2004, MBNA has automatically increased my credit line every month on the card to double what was originally offered.

I lost a $500 digital camera on an airplane in 2005, the free included platinum protection plan (bought the camera with my MBNA card) paid for a replacement camera (less the taxes) and took less than a month for their claims department to issue me a cheque.

This morning I called MBNA and requested a lower APR rate from the 18.99% standard rate issued). I told them that I would have to carry more than my regular balance on the card due to an incident this summer for the next couple months and that my bank was willing to offer me a much lower rate. They offered me 14.99% and I said that wasn't good enough and that my bank could do it for 12, they offered 11.99% just like that and I took it.  I am sure I could have made a much bigger ordeal and gotten maybe 8-10% but I am happy with the current rate for now and will call again in a month to try and shave off another point or two.
