here's my situation:
Turning on the xbox with no disc in the drive via the power button brings up the XBMS! woo!
Turning on the xbox with the eject button brings up MXM
Turning on the xbox via the power button with a game in the drive boots the game.
So I do not see the 'old' Xbox dashboard at all in any method. Is this correct?
And am I safe to connect to Xbox Live?
Thank you so much once again.

Erik,
The How-to on changing MXM's IP was the last piece of the puzzle. I agree with '138, you are a patient soul. I've got everything up and working now. Thanks for a great How-to and better support than I've seen in quite a while.
Thanks!!

Awesome guide. Thanks so much. But I'm having problems FTPing into my XBOX. My kernel is less than 5530 so I'm using ltools_MA_v1.7.5, but I can't FTP into it. FlashFXP times out trying to connect and I get no response from my ping.

Alright I found out why mine wasnt installing.. Theres another linux install using the Mechassault method http://www.xbox-linux.org/wiki/Software_Method_HOWTO#Making_the_Xbox_Linux-compatible that only works with the discs that have the letters laser etched MS02301L on the back. Subsiquently, Mine does not work because it has MS02308L etched on the back.Even though my disc says on the front: X08-82264, it doesnt work. So I Must find a disc that has the laser etching MS02301L or I am out 30 Dollars for buying this stupid 8mb usb dongle thingy.

one more issue and I will leave you alone, Erik-
While the media center seems to work great on its own, I cannot get any large video files to play! Any format I try that is a small file (say, under 100mb or so) works fine. But larger divx and mpeg files do not work. Any ideas?
(thanks again)

"Turning on the xbox with no disc in the drive via the power button brings up the XBMS! woo!"
Your setup is complete! You can get to the Xbox Dashboard through XBMC if you look around if you absolutely need to. Now as far as Xbox Live is concerned, to be absolutely safe you do this: (A) get to MXM with eject button, then Uninstall UXE (you don't need the Mech Assault disc). When you are done with Live, then simply reinstall UXE ...OR... If you are more brave, do this: (B) put an original game in the tray, power off, then power on with the small button (power button)
Congrats!

Is your network setup correctly? Are you using a router? Does MXM load when you turn your Xbox on? MXM defaults to IP address of 192.168.0.3 on subnet 255.255.255.0. Make sure your network is solid.

I've never heard of this problem before. XBMC is pretty solid with it's streaming. Are you running Windows XP and attempting to stream files? What is your network setup? It's pretty crucial to get larger files to work, I can appreciate that since movies are usually 700MB or more.
