''Check the following things:
* have you deleted all the previous Mech Assault gamesaves before starting? (if you've played Mech Assault before)
* have you checked the actual Mech Assault disc to make sure it's the proper part no.? (sometimes the disc is different than the box for used games)''
Yes, I deleted all MechAssault save games. A few times now. And yes, it is a proper version disc.

Hang in there, Cisco, the final product is well worth the trouble. MXM defaults to 192.168.0.3, so you have to make sure your computer has the same first three octets of it's IP address (192.168.0). I've addressed other network problems earlier in this discussion.
Are you using a router? Or direct crossover connection?

What version of Xbox dashboard do you have? (Found in "Settings" -> "System Info" then wait for the disclaimer to scroll down D:1.00.XXXX.01, it's the "XXXX" part)
Are you using ltools_MA_v1.8.rc1.zip?

Thank's for the encouragement. My system goes 192.168.1 so I guess I gotta change the MXM settings. Any chance of my router's firewall becoming a problem. Do I have to disable the security settings?

Either you can change your network to 192.168.0 or read the guide here. Your firewall/security on the router shouldn't be a problem as this pertains to WAN and not LAN. (Xbox will be on your LAN)

Is it possible I didn't get the full save game somehow? How many blocks should it be?

602 blocks. I would recommend downloading the file again from the FTP site. Also, if you have kernel version 5530 or earlier, download the previous version of ltools (ltools_MA_v1.7.5.zip) . Try installing again first with the new 1.8.rc1, and if still doesn't work, try ltools_MA_v1.7.5.zip.
When installing ltools_MA_v1.7.5.zip, you should choose UDE2 install if you are using a North American Xbox (NTSC) and UDE otherwise. The steps are basically the same as UXE.
