LCD screen. The DCR-TRV280 is the lone digital camcorder in the Sony line without a touch screen. Sony has added their popular zoom and record buttons to the side of the DCR-TRV280s LCD screen. While it records the Digital8 signal to Hi8 and 8mm tapes, the DCR-TRV280 however noticably lacks the ability to playback Hi8 and 8mm footage.

It is similar to another Samsung camcorder, the SMX-F33, in that it shares things like the NTSC format, and can use SD cards as storage media. The SMX-F33 however, has more advanced features, such as 3D noise reduction technology. The SMX-C14 has a merge and split that allows the user to cut and divide clips on the camcorder itself. This eliminates the need for editing software on a PC, and lets the user quickly make any sort of video they like. The camcorder also features animated thumbnails, which make file selection easier. By having the thumbnails animated, the user can tell exactly what's inside it without entering playback mode. On top of these features, the SMX-C14 also has a 25 degree active angle lens, which provides the user with a healthy hand position. This eliminates wrist pains and fatigue, which lets the user shoot footage for longer periods of time.

For easy browsing on the camera, each video is represented by a small thumbnail with short playback when highlighted. The battery can be charges using a USB connection or with the supplied AC adapter. The Samsung SMX-K40 is available in black, silver or blue.

Retailing at just $279, this piece is very cheap if compared to the other ultra-compact camcorders in the market. It has a good 37x zoom (its advanced zoom goes up to 48x), which is above average, has manual focus with impressive quality, and weights just 13.4 ounces. It must be noted that this piece has a 1.07 CCD image sensor and has the interesting feature of multi-angle remote: which means it can be controlled by the remote from any angle. The primary difference between this one and the $10 cheaper Canon ZR930 is that it has an SDHC slot for stills and a USB 2.0 port for connecting to PictBridge printers.

It is a competitor to the Flip Mino HD and the Kodak Zi6. It has a video resolution of up to 1080p and also takes five megapixel stills. With a bigger sensor than other minis, this one can pick up nicer and more accurate details and colors. It is also noted that the Camileo S10 beats its competitors (Zi6 and Flip Mino HD) in its finish: 18mm thick brush metal/glossy cover design but with one catch: it's slick finish will probably make it less durable than its competitors. The device also has 4x digital zoom, 2.5 inch LCD, and while it has only 128 MB of internal memory, it allows for external SD card memory. It also has an HDMI port for quick video transfer to HDTVs. This product is already available in Asia, will be released in UK in May, but no word on when it's coming out in the US.

Features

Definition: 1080p

Still image size: 5 mega pixel

Capture: CMOS

The SMX-C10 is a more ergonomic camcorder than most, as the lens is on a 25-degree angle that allows it to film straight ahead while being tilted downward slightly, reducing the common hand pain from holding a camera straight for extended periods of time. Like many Samsung camcorders, it features a one-touch button for uploading video to YouTube and other online video sharing sites. It has the ability to record either to the internal 16GB flash memory, or an external SD/memory card for extra or more portable storage. The video can be transferred over USB from either the SD card or the internal storage, and because the software is embedded on the camera, video can be transferred to any computer at any time. Video that is still on the device can be played back on the device itself, or outputted to a TV via an included composite cable. When browsing through video, the SMX-C10 uses moving thumbnails, so the video can be watched thumbnail size to more easily identify which video the user is looking for, before blowing it up to full screen. It can also take 800x600 still photos, which are then interpolated to 1600x1200 (1.9 megapixels), making it a convenient photo taker, if necessary. However, when compared to actual digital cameras, the quality is much less.

Like the CAM4505, it features a 2" display and 4x digital zoom, but it utilizes a higher-resolution, 5MP sensor to support HD recording. With a less refined design but otherwise practically identical to its successor, the camcorder supports memory expansion via SD/SDHC card, up to 16 GB. A battery life estimate for the included rechargeable battery is not provided. Included software allows videos to be edited and uploaded to YouTube on a PC, and an HDMI port and included cable allow HD video to be displayed at full resolution on an external panel.

They both have a limited 16x zoom, advanced optical image stabilization, 1920 x 1080 full-HD videos, 8GB of built-in memory, and most important of all: an extremely light body that weighs only 0.5 pounds. One of the main differences of the Panasonic HDC-TM10 is that it comes in different color options of black or silver. Another feature that the HDC-SD10 doesn't have is the Twin Memory Recording, a feature that automatically switches the recording from the built-in hard drive to the SDHC/SD memory card when the built-in memory is full. This provides a smooth recording uninterrupted by the need to switch from one storage to the other manually.

The third of six Panasonic HDC-HS models, the Panasonic HDC-SD20 is a downgrade from the Panasonic HDC-HS20 and HDC-TM20 in that it does not feature either an HDD or internal flash memory. Instead, the HDC-SD20 relies on just an SDHC/SC memory card to store 1920 x 1080 HD video content. In all other ways, however, the HDC-SD20 is practically a duplicate of its upgraded peers. For instance, the HDC-SD20 is also equipped with a 5.1 channel surround sound system with a 5 microphones and a zoom microphone feature. In addition, the HDC-SD20 offers full support for Apple Macintosh computers, and in fact allows easy file transferring so that files may be edited in iMovie. Furthermore, the HDC-SD20 features touch-screen controls with icon-based menus, an auto power LCD, and a quick 1.9 second power-up so that users can more easily catch spontaneous moments on video. The HDC-SD20 also boasts a Leica Dicomar lens with a 16x optical zoom, a 40x digital zoom, auto focus tracking, a 2.7” wide LCD, and automatic LCD brightness adjustments. This is an unusual camera type that can record up to 8 hours. It has a zoom of 42x which is pretty powerful, it also has an optimized mode for Youtube, which is a feature that's usually found in pocket camcorders such as the RCA EZ200. It has a 2.7" LCD, which is almost a standard feature across miniDVs, HDs and DVD camcorders. While the manufacturer claims that this could be a replacement for digital cameras, it only takes a miserly 800x600 pixel still.

Features

Record SD video to SD/SDHC cards and 16 GB of internal flash memory

Enhance 34x optical zoom up to 42x with Samsung's new Intelli-zoom

Web & Mobile shooting mode for easy online video sharing

Capture 800x600 digital still photos

Samsung HMX-H105

The Samsung HMX-H105 model camcorder was debuted on January 5 2009 as a higher-end extension to its full-HD digital camcorder family. The new H-series HD camcorders are quoted to offer first and foremost full-HD quality video, high-performance, a sleek and stylish body design, a high-quality HD image lens with OIS (Optical Image Stabilization) support and internal/integrated solid state drives for memory storage. The HMX-H105 is one step down from the premier model in the H-series of camcorders; it will offer a cheaper source for full HD quality video with an internal hard drive. The HMX-H105 will feature an integrated 32GB internal storage drive and also supports the use of an SD/SDHC memory card for video storage as well. Video will be compressed in the H.264 video format meaning users will be able to record up to six hours of video on the 32GB drive and up to three hours of additional HD video on a 16GB SDHC card.

Each unit in the H-series includes a Schneider Kreuznach Varioplan HD lens equipped with Optical Image Stabilization support to ensure the video remains smooth and free of the normal shaking patterns caused by human hands. The lens also provides a 10x optical zoom and a 37mm wide angle focal length; most average camcorders on the market offer in the range of 40-50mm. The HMX-105 H-series camcorder will also include additional features such as an HDMI output for full HD support and viewing on an HDTV, a swiveling 2.7" TFT LCD screen and an HD time lapse recording mode which allows users to pre-select a certain period of time for recording.

Currently the newly announced H-series looks to be a much higher-end lineup than the original HMX HD series of camcorders from Samsung, and are further set to offer a larger amount of features for a cheaper or equal price. No permanent price tag for the device has been set as of this time.

Features

High-end H-series full-HD camcorder

Full 1080i/1080p video recording support in H.264 video format

32GB internal flash drive and SD-SDHC memory card support for storage

Schneider Kreuznach Varioplan HD lens equipped with Optical Image Stabilization support

10x optical zoom and 37mm wide angle focal length

Integrated HDMI output

Swiveling 2.7" TFT LCD screen

HD time lapse recording mode

The SDR-H60 records MPEG-2 to the internal 60GB hard drive or a loaded SD/SDHC card. While it is slightly larger than many consumer offerings, the ability to take up to 14-54 hours of footage (depending on quality settings) without erasing or transferring is reason enough to consider this model. Battery life is 90 minutes.

Panasonic SDR-S25

The Panasonic SDR-S25 is another cheap camcorder that has better features than some of the more expensive Panasonic camcorders on the market. It has a 70x optical zoom, much better than the 30x zoom that the SDR-H200 offers for more than double the price. One thing that makes the product less exciting, and more deserving of its price, is that instead of a built-in hard drive, the Panasonic SDR-S25 relies on the use of SDHC memory cards to store the video - memory cards that are not included and have to be purchased. The fairly low-end, inexpensive DA30 uses a single CCF sensor to capture video and stills in a resolution of up to 680K. Its 30x optical zoom is one of its main selling points. The 2.4" LCD display slides vertically over the back of the camera, for viewing from a variety of angles. Under the monitor is a 4-way stick control enabling quick access to manual settings including focus and brightness. Other features include 3D noise reduction, and a night mode for enhanced sensitivity in low light.

The Samsung SC-D382 is an ultra-cheap miniDV camcorder that retails for just $190 and was released in 2008. This piece would be ideal for a family that would like to record the simple pleasures of life without all the bells and whistles (and cost) of a more advanced HD camera. Despite its price it has good features like a 34x optical zoom, has manual focus (which is a feature for intermediate users who would like to manually focus on objects the automatic one fails to), and it weighs just 12 ounces. Interestingly, despite getting good reviews from professionals like cnet.com, this piece didn't win in the minds and hearts of consumers: many complained about its lack of compatability with iMovie in Macs, and no 16:9 mode. While these may seem like advanced features, it is obvious that consumers' expectations are very high these days considering the falling of prices, accelerated introduction of features, and fierce competition.

It?s the first DVD camcorder to use three CCDs for recording video instead of a single imaging device. Panasonic has made a name for itself by incorporating three CCDs into MiniDV models for years such as the legendary PV-GS400.
Added from i4u.digitaltrends.com

It features a 5MP CMOS sensor with a 3x digital zoom. This allows users to take high-quality photos, as well as record 720p videos with audio. Included is a flip-out USB connector for hooking up to a computer, and ArcSoft software for effortlessly uploading to sites like YouTube. It has been praised by reviewers for its removable battery, its ability to be charged through the USB interface, and its support for SD memory. However, it lacks support for HDMI. In addition, there is no lens cover and the movies are stored in the .mov format, which isn’t compatible with Windows Media Player.

It houses a powerful 5MP CMOS sensor with a 5x optical zoom and 20x digital zoom for taking extremely clear photos. On the video end, the device supports full 1080p high-definition footage with audio, though it stores it in the .mov QuickTime format, which means it’s not compatible with Windows Media Player. Additional features include a touchscreen display that can be swiveled, a rechargeable battery with a two-hour lifespan, and a USB interface for PC connectivity. According to expert reviewers, the Aluratek CINECAM AHDVC03F doesn’t offer the HD experience that a professional grade model would, but it does provide a fair price/performance ratio.

Aluratek CINECAM AHDVC02F

The Aluratek CINECAM AHDVC02F is a handheld digital camcorder designed for capturing snapshots and recording high-definition films. Though it maintains the 5MP CMOS of its predecessor, the AHDVC01F, it builds from it by incorporating an enhanced 4x digital zoom, a larger 3” LCD display, and support for full 1080p high-definition video-capture with sound. Plus it hosts an easer-to-carry, vertical design. Unfortunately, my reviewers have complained that the video is blurry. In addition, the AHDVC02F only comes with two lens, both of which are fixed focus (regular shooting and closeup). And like its predecessor, this camcorder stores all videos in the .mov format, which isn’t compatible with Windows Media Player.
