July 10, 2009 at 1:57 pm

"I tried to get used to this keyboard for about a month, but couldn't do it. The problem is that I have not been formally taught to touch type, so I don't always use the right finger for the right keys. For example, I sometimes hit T with my right hand's finger, and due to it being out of reach on the 4000 I end up typing Y instead.

If I were to make the effort to learn how to type properly, using the correct fingers for each key, it would probably be brilliant. It's certainly comfortable enough. I just couldn't break the habits of a lifetime, using whatever finger seems best placed at the time to hit each key."

mojo sent a message to mojo

July 10, 2009 at 1:48 pm

"Thanks for the message, it's nice to know someone reads my reviews :)

Unfortunately I never found any really good gloves. I want some that heat my fingers, particularly the knuckles. I guess you are probably the same. The best thing I have found so far is to just make a hot drink and cup your hands around it between bouts of typing. You can get USB drink warmers which are a good idea unless you like drinking 20 cups of lukewarm tea a day :)

I have tried ergonomic keyboards and the like but none of them really help. Having a desk that is the right height and a good chair is really important though. My old desk was too high and it gave me wrist ache. The new one is about 65cm off the ground, much better, but you may need it lower if you are not fully adult height.

A descent office chair is a must. There are different kinds, but look for one rated for 8 hours continuous use and which has adjustable arm rests.

I don't know what medication you take, but it took me ages to find the right stuff. I can't tolerate most medicine it seems... Anyway, I take Amitriptyline for pain (normal pain killers give me problems, that stuff is basically an anti-depressant which means I feel the pain but don't care so much about it) and Hydroxychloroquine for the stiffness. It varies from person to person though. I don't know where you are, but here in the UK you have to keep badgering your GP and the specialists to try new stuff until the find the best one."

February 10, 2008 at 6:26 pm

"I suffer from rheumatoid arthritis. I got these gloves to keep my hands from getting too stiff while working on the computer in the cold. The heat they produce is nice, not enough to burn you but enough to warm your hand up. The problem is that the heating element is in the top flap of the glove which can be folded down over the fingers. When it is up (so your fingers are exposed for typing) it does not make good contact with your hand to transfer heat. When down, you can't type or use the mouse. The synthetic material the gloves are made from is like wool, and leaves a lot of fibres behind on your keyboard that need to be cleaned up. It would have been better to use Thinsulate or similar, or just silk with heating wires part way down the fingers. All in all, they so have some effect but are badly designed."

Generally, it functions quite well, detecting more viruses than average (e.g. AntiVir) and slowing the system down less than Norton or McAfee. However, there is definitely noticeable slowdown and the latest version cannot be run in an "on demand" scan only mode. Beware of bogus claims about 99% detection rates. These tests are performed by av-comparatives.org, but do not give a very clear or realistic picture. For example, AntiVir is rated very highly, but in practice rarely picks up the latest viruses. Kaspersky is similar - despite the hourly updates it often misses new viruses even with heuristic scanning turned on. Unfortunately no AV program detects everything, which is why it is important to run more than one. Unfortunately, Kaspersky cannot be run along side another AV program."
