Mosquitoes are not pleasant, to put it mildly, and countless ways to protect yourself are available. Anything from candles to bug spray to an extra layer of clothing can all help in the fight against the mosquito bite, but for some reason, new solutions are always appealing. This one claims to create a shield of up to 15 feet in diameter that will protect you against mosquitoes coming into your immediate vicinity. By using Geriniol as a repellant, the substance is fanned out, and the manufacturer claims the device has been field-tested to prove that mosquitoes are discouraged by the smell.

More information

Not much information is available on Geriniol so it's impossible to prove the manufacturer's claim. It's not clear if this device actually works, however, in theory it would be a nice option to have sitting on your back porch or down by the dock. Since it is encased in a small package, you could also clip it to a backpack or belt and use it while walking.

I'm always very skeptical of mosquito repellants like this. Just like those bug zappers. Do you really think you're going to keep away or kill every mosquito? Their are millions of them and they want your blood!!!!

Female mosquitos are attracted to CO2, so the only way to repel them is to stop breathing. ;-) The only repellant I found that worked was DEET, but it is hazardous to humans as it can increase the risk of cancer.

yeah DEET works great - but nothing like accidentally forgetting youve got it on your hands still and putting them in your moth - tastes awful. I've tried one of the devices like this ages ago and it sort of helped a bit. Be great if theres really a 90%+ effective thing like this though as a few bug bites and no DEET is better then DEET and almost no bug bites.

Gerin Oil (or Geriniol, to give it its scientific name) is a powerful drug that acts directly on the central nervous system to produce a range of symptoms, often of an antisocial or self-damaging nature. It can permanently modify the child brain to produce adult disorders, including dangerous delusions that are hard to treat. The four doomed flights of September 11, 2001, were Gerin Oil trips: all nineteen of the hijackers were high on the drug at the time. Historically, Geriniolism was responsible for atrocities such as the Salem witch hunts and the massacres of native South Americans by Conquistadores. Gerin Oil fuelled most of the wars of the European Middle Ages and, in more recent times, the carnage that attended the partitioning of the Indian subcontinent and of Ireland.
