It takes place in late 19th century London and centres around the story of two rival magicians and their quest to out-magic each other. As the movie progresses you learn about the importance of the Prestige, the third act of any magic trick, when the object (or person) in question reappears.

The film is based on a novel by Christopher Priest and features a stellar cast including Hugh Jackman and Christian Bale as the obsessed magicians, Scarlett Johansson as a stage assistant and incomparable Michael Caine as a prop inventor. David Bowie also has a cameo as the famed scientist Nikola Tesla.

Director Davis Guggenheim eloquently weaves the science of global warming with Al Gore's personal history and lifelong commitment to reversing the effects of global climate change in the most talked-about documentary of the year. An audience and critical favorite, An Inconvenient Truth makes the compelling case that global warming is real, man-made, and its effects will be cataclysmic if we don’t act now. Gore presents a wide array of facts and information in a thoughtful and compelling way: often humorous, frequently emotional, always fascinating. In the end, An Inconvenient Truth accomplishes what all great films should: it leaves the viewer shaken, involved and inspired.
Added from www.amazon.com

Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure

Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure is a 1989 comedy/sci-fi film about two slackers who are destined to save the entire universe by traveling through time by a guitar-playing guru from the future. William "Bill" S. Preston Esq. (Alex Winter) and Ted "Theodore" Logan (Keanu Reeves) play two high school friends, and Wyld Stallyns band members from San Dimas, CA who make for an unlikely cast to save the world. In their time travels they get the help of many historical figures including Napoleon Bonaparte, Socrates, Billy the Kid, Sigmund Freud, Beethoven, Genghis Khan, Joan of Arc, and Abraham Lincoln.

Like all movies about time travel, Bill and Ted's Excellent adventure raises many questions about the possibility and paradox of time travel. The entire film is an example of the predestination paradox in which Bill and Ted are "pre-destined" to travel back in time in the future forming a self-consistent causal loop.

Spoiler alert: In the final moments of the film, the time travelers exploit the Novikov self-consistency principle in order to break themselves into jail they promise that the future version of themselves to travel back in time and steal their Dad's keys and place them in a predetermined location. In a subtle moment at the beginning of the film, you'll notice that the Dad is missing his keys. Thus, Bill and Ted were pre-destined to succeed. Dude!

Other Films about Time Travel

Back to the Future (1985)

Deja Vu (2006)

This film was followed by a sequel Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey (1991) in which Bill and Ted go to hell. There is also a video game entitled Bill and Ted's Excellent Video Game Adventure (1991).

This comedic drama from writer-director Don Roos (THE OPPOSITE OF SEX) comes packed with many unusual themes including abortion, homosexual parenting, teenage pregnancy, marrying for green cards, and the unscrupulous practice of bringing a client to orgasm at the conclusion of a massage (the "happy ending" referenced in the title). Lisa Kudrow plays the recipient of one such massage, and she later makes a video about her masseur/lover--who says he has information about a son she gave up for adoption years earlier. Meanwhile, her gay brother (Steve Coogan) suspects that his boyfriend may have given sperm to a lesbian couple (Laura Dern and Sarah Clarke) to help them have a daughter. Another thread of this intricately woven plot concerns a sexual libertine (Maggie Gyllenhaal) who seduces both a rich widower (Tom Arnold) and his closeted gay son (Jason Ritter).

A satirical look at the zombie genre, made popular by films like Night of the Living Dead and its sequel Dawn of the Dead, Shaun of the Dead stars Simon Pegg and Nick Frost as Shaun and Ed trying to survive in a world quickly being taken over by zombies. Unlike other zombie movies, this film is much more of a comedy than a horror, and was initially inspired by an episode of the Brittish sitcom Spaced in which Simon Pegg's character, while under the influence of amphetamines imagines that he is fighting zombies.

Shaun of the Dead was both a critical and commercial success in the UK and North America and is now available on DVD. Director Edgar Wright released Hot Fuzz in 2007 in much the same style as Shaun of the Dead, but this time taking on a parody of the cop film.

The show centers around a small Texas town that is obsessed with football. Highschool football dictates the lives of many people in the town, not to mention the lives of the highschoolers themselves. Although non-football fans might shy away from a show that has the sport as its focus, the show is poignant and though-provoking and appeals to many types of fans, including people who don't know the first thing about a touchdown.

Since critics have been praising this show as the "Best New Show of the Season" since its beginning, the people behind the show are so convinced that you'll love it as well that they're offering a money-back guarantee if you don't like the show.

The Conchords are New Zealanders Bret McKenzie and Jemaine Clement--New Zealand's 4th Most Popular Folk Parody Duo--and the series follows their surreal lunacy as they try to make it in New York. Writer-director Richard Kelly's bold debut film is a social satire, a dark comedy, a science fiction time-traveling fantasy, and a suburban nightmare about an extremely intelligent, depressive, self-destructive, narcoleptic, gun-toting, sex-crazed, teenaged arsonist: Donnie Darko (Jake Gyllenhaal).

From the opening sequence--a high-speed, high-tech truck robbery--the film never drops below the red line. Roaring along at breakneck speed, Dom (Vin Diesel) and his crew meet on the streets of L.A. each night to show off their high-powered racers. When new guy Brian (Paul Walker) wants to add his fuel to the fire, he can't cough up the cash to race, but offers up his car as collateral. In their tiny jacked compacts, Dom, Brian, and Edwin (Ja Rule) burst into a high-gear race with Brian nearly beating perennial champion Dom. But in the final moments, he loses the race and his car. Brian's debt is quickly cleared, however, when he saves Dom both from the cops and from a potentially violent encounter with Johnny Tran (Rick Yune), a rival gang lord.
What the Bleep Do We Know!?

What the Bleep Do We Know!? Is a film that combines documentary-style interviews, computer animation, and an overal narrative that posits a spiritual connection between quantum physics and conciousness.

The plot follows the story of a deaf female photographer; as she encounters emotional and existential obstacles in her life, she comes to consider the idea that individual and group consciousness can influence the material world. Her experiences are offered by the filmmakers as an illustration of the movie's thesis about quantum physics and consciousness. The 2004 cinematic release of the film was followed by a substantially changed, extended DVD version in 2006.

Bleep was conceived and its production funded by William Arntz, who co-directed the film along with Betsy Chasse and Mark Vicente: all of these individuals are students of Ramtha's School of Enlightenment. A moderately low-budget independent production, it was promoted using viral marketing methods and opened in art-house theaters in the western United States, winning several independent film awards before being picked up by a major distributor and eventually grossing over $10 million.

The film has been criticized for misrepresenting science and containing pseudoscience.

quotes from "ZOOLANDER"

Matilda: Every day after school I would come home and you know, I'd flip through the pages of my mom's Vogue and Glamour and ? I'd just ? I'd look at these women .. These perfect, beautiful ? just unbelievable skinny women. I just couldn't - Oh, I just couldn't understand why I didn't look like them. I just didn't get it. So um ? so I became ?

Hansel: What?

Matilda: Bulimic.

Zoolander: You can read minds?

Matilda: Derek, I don't know if you're familiar with the belief that some aboriginal tribes hold. It's the concept that a photo might steal a part of your soul. What are your thoughts on that if someone gets his picture taken for a living?

Zoolander: Well I guess I would have to answer your question with another question. How many abo-diginals do you see modeling?

Hansel: So I'm repelling down mount Vesuvius when suddenly I slip. And I'm just falling, terrified and then I think, "Hey, Hansel, haven't you been smoking Peyote for six straight days and couldn't some of this maybe be in your mind?"

Derek Zoolander: And?

Hansel: And it was. I was totally fine. I've never even been to mount Vesuvius.

Hansel: I hear a lot of words like "beauty" and "handsomeness" and "incredibly chiseled features." To me that's like a vanity, a self-absorbtion that I try to steer clear of. I dig the bungee. For me, it's just the way I live my life. I grip it and I rip it. I live it with a lot of flair. I live it on the edge, where I gotta be. I wasn't like every other kids you know who dreams about being an astronaut. I was always more interested in aaaaa ? what bark was made out of on a tree. Richard Gere's a real hero of mine. Sting. Sting would be another person who's a hero. The music that he's created over the years - I don't really listen to it. But the fact that he's making it, I respect that. I care desperately about what I do. Do I know what product I'm selling? No. Do I know what I'm doing today? No. But I'm here and I'm gonna give it my best shot.

Zoolander: Modeling, to me, isn't just about being good-looking or having a lot of fun and being really, really good looking. The calendar was great because it gave people a chance to see a side of my versatility. The original Greek word for model means "misshapen ball of clay" and I try to think about that every time I get in front of a camera.

Zoolander: Who am I? I don't know. I guess I have a lot of things to ponder.

Derek Zoolander: If there is anything that this horrible tragedy can teach us, it's that a male model's life is a precious, precious commodity. Just because we have chiseled abs and stunning features, it doesn't mean that we too can't not die in a freak gasoline fight accident.

Larry Zoolander: I just thank the Lord she didn't live to see her son as a mermaid.

But, they know that there is something more. There is some idea, some mechanism, some accidental side effect that is standing between them and a pure leap of innovation. And so, through trial and error they are building the device that is missing most. However, two of these men find the device and immediately realize that it is too valuable to market. The limit of their trust in each other is strained when they are faced with the question, If you always want what you can't have, what do you want when you can have anything?

Hilary Duff stars in this comedy as Holly, a teenager whose lovelorn single mom (Heather Locklear) moves the family--including her youngest daughter (Aria Wallace)--to a new state every time she gets dumped, which is often. Their latest residence turns out to be Brooklyn, where the now thoroughly destabilized Holly decides that enough is enough and works to prevent mom from dating yet another local loser. She uses a friend's handsome uncle (Chris Noth) as the unwitting basis for a fictional secret admirer to keep mom occupied, but the deception quickly spins out of control, resulting in some madcap hijinx. Meanwhile, a classmate who is a comic book artist (Ben Feldman) falls for Holly, but she's way too edgy to notice that love has found her instead of her mom. This whimsical plotline may sound familiar to any non-'tweener in the audience, but it works due to the relaxed, natural rapport between Duff and Locklear who share some heartfelt moments of mother-daughter bonding. Plus, no one can squirm in tort...

A famous Iranian singer, Mizra (Shahab Ebrahimi), and his two sons partake in an epic journey across hazardous terrain in director Bahman Ghobadi's MAROONED IN IRAQ. Set in the aftermath of the Persian Gulf War, the ultimate aim of the journey is to search for Mizra's missing ex-wife, who fled Iran to find solace in Iraq when the war pulled a sudden halt to her singing career. The harsh terrain the men encounter results in experiences that run the full gamut of human emotions, from lighthearted, slapstick interplay, to the discovery of a mass grave of dead Iranians. Omnipresent throughout the film are the sounds of Saddam Hussein's jets flying overhead, which serve as a reminder of the treacherous nature of the men's trip. <br> <br> Iranian resident Ghobadi has created a moving tale of strength, resilience, and spirit in a time of extreme adversity.

Fritz Lang's Metropolis is surely one of the greatest films ever made. Since it's release in Germany in 1927, its scope, its reach, its magnitude and its message are truly incredible even by today's standards of film-making.

PLOT SUMMARY: In the future, the society of Metropolis is divided in two social classes: the workers, who live in the underground below the machines level, and the dominant classes that lives in the surface. The workers are controlled by their leader Maria, who wants to find a mediator between the upper class lords and the workers, since she believes that a heart would be necessary between brains and muscles. Maria meets Freder Fredersen, the son of the Lord of Metropolis Johhan Fredersen, in a meeting of the workers, and they fall in love for each other. Meanwhile, Johhan decides that the workers are no longer necessary for Metropolis, and uses a robot pretending to be Maria to promote a revolution of the working class and eliminate them.

The couple has a history, but can't remember each other. What's happened that has made them so close and drawn to each other? The truth is, they did know each other, very well, in fact they lived together, however Clementine has had her memory erased so that she can forget Joel and all of her feelings for him. When Joel learns of Clementine's position, he too goes to have his memory erased of her. But, halfway through the procedure he changes his mind and clings desperately to the happy memories they shared together. As the viewer watches their romance unfold, the story is helped along by a few eccentric and likable characters including Kirsten Dunst, Elijah Wood, Mark Ruffalo and Tom Wilkinson.

In this survival-of-the-fittest teen comedy, high school is a dangerous jungle seething with teenagers who prey on each other like wild animals. The nonstop jokes are hilariously rewarding as they exaggerate adolescent vanity and satirize political correctness issues like race, class, and homosexuality. Here, the Plastics are the most popular girls in school. They wrote the rule book on Girl World, like always wearing pink on Tuesdays. And they're mean. So when pretty new girl Cady (Lindsay Lohan) arrives in school, the first thing they do is make fun of her. Then they try to win her over. Cady is torn between social cliques. She befriends the punky rebels Janis (Lizzy Caplan) and Damian (Daniel Franzese). But the guy Cady wants to date is friends with the Plastics--Regina (Rachel McAdams), Gretchen (Lacey Chabert), and Karen (Amanda Seyfriend)--so she has to be resourceful.

The Golden Girls - Season 4

One of the most popular television shows of the 1980s, THE GOLDEN GIRLS was created by television writer Susan Harris (SOAP). The show centered on four elderly single women living in the same house together, all played by sitcom veterans: sensible Dorothy (Bea Arthur), sweet but stupid Rose (Betty White), lusty Blanche (Rue McClanahan), and Dorothy's outspoken mother, Sophia (Estelle Getty). The program was nominated for many Emmy and Golden Globe awards, and was consistently in Nielsen's top 10 for its entire run, garnering both critical acclaim and public popularity. It also proved daring for its time: not only did it tackle sensitive political issues, but it was a prime-time show whose main characters were much older than television's desired demographic. Season four collects all 26 episodes from the program's fourth year, and features guest stars such as Quentin Tarantino, Julio Iglesias, and Bob Hope.

When a kidnapping threat is held over two wealthy heiresses in the Hamptons, inept FBI agents Kevin (Marlon Wayans) and Marcus Copeland (Shawn Wayans), try to help out by disguising themselves as WHITE CHICKS in this wacky screwball comedy. With a little help from the FBI's prosthetics department, the agents don blonde wigs, blue contact lenses, and pale body paint to transform themselves into two Hamptons-bound sisters looking to live it up for the weekend. Miraculously the agents find themselves a surprise hit with the Hamptons set, providing plenty of laughs and quizzical looks as they frequently slip out of character. The lewd jokes come thick and fast, providing plenty of opportunities for the Wayans brothers to flex their comedic muscles. They poke gentle fun at a number of targets, mostly along gender and race lines, but also at spoiled teenage girls, and botox-riddled fashionistas.

Heroes is an American drama television series, created by Tim Kring, which premiered on NBC on September 25, 2006. The series tells the story of several people who "thought they were like everyone else... until they woke with incredible abilities" such as telepathy, time travel and flight. These people soon realize they have a role in preventing a catastrophe and saving mankind.

The series loosely follows the writing style of American comics by doing short, multi-episode story arcs that build upon a larger, more encompassing arc. Even with small story arcs that move the story forward, Kring said he mapped out where he intends the show to go for the next five seasons.

Actor Bill Paxton's directorial debut, FRAILTY, has been hailed for its originality by author Stephen King and director Sam Raimi (THE EVIL DEAD). The film opens on a stormy night when an intense man (Matthew McConaughey) walks into FBI headquarters in Dallas and tells Agent Wesley Doyle (Powers Boothe) that he knows who the "God's Hand" serial killer is. He tells a compelling tale, shown in flashback, of how he and his brother lived with their kind widower father (Bill Paxton), a mechanic. One night, their father woke them to tell them he'd had a vision, and that God had commanded the family to slay demons in human form. The older brother, Fenton (Matt O'Leary), doesn't believe a word of it, and assumes that their father has gone mad. The younger brother, Adam (Jeremy Sumpter), is more easily swayed. Soon the father is bringing people home, supposedly chosen by God for them to slay.

The film opens with Deuce Bigalow (Schneider) at the beach doing research on fish, where he is bullied by a couple of kids. The situation quickly escalates into a catastrophe involving elderly blind people and dolphins. So when he gets a call from an old friend, T.J. Accompanied by the prosthetic leg of his recently deceased bride (she was eaten by a shark on their honeymoon), Deuce shows up in Europe only to find that a mysterious killer is knocking off the city's man-whores. Worse, T.J. is implicated, so Deuce is forced to go undercover and search for the killer on his own, hoping to clear his friend's name.
