The Big Lebowski is a 1998 comedy written and directed by the Coen brothers, the same people who did No Country for Old Men. It centers around a man by the name of Jeffrey "The Dude" Lebowski (Jeff Bridges), a slacker from L.A. who doesn't do much besides go bowling with his friends Walter (John Goodman) and Donny (Steve Buscemi). "The Dude" has his house broken into and his rug urinated on by two thugs who mistake him for a millionaire who is also named Jeffrey Lebowski. It is comes in on the IMDB top 250 at #158 with an average rating of 8.2. The 10th Anniversary Special Edition (Released September 2008) is packaged inside a mini-bowling ball....the dude abides.

Christopher Nolan, the genius behind Batman Begins and Memento, tries his hand at magic with his latest film. It takes place in late 19th century London and centres around the story of two rival magicians and their quest to out-magic each other. As the movie progresses you learn about the importance of the Prestige, the third act of any magic trick, when the object (or person) in question reappears.

The film is based on a novel by Christopher Priest and features a stellar cast including Hugh Jackman and Christian Bale as the obsessed magicians, Scarlett Johansson as a stage assistant and incomparable Michael Caine as a prop inventor. David Bowie also has a cameo as the famed scientist Nikola Tesla.

Avon Barksdale, accompanied by his right-hand man Stringer Bell, enforcer Wee-Bey and many lieutenants (including his own nephew, D'Angelo Barksdale), has to deal with law enforcement, informants in his own camp, and competition with a local rival, Omar, who's been robbing Barksdale's dealers and reselling the drugs. The supervisor of the investigation, Lt. Cedric Daniels, has to deal with his own problems, such as a corrupt bureaucracy, some of his detectives beating suspects, hard-headed but determined Det. McNulty, and a blackmailing deputy. The show depicts the lives of every part of the drug "food chain", from junkies to dealers, and from cops to politicians.

They make progress until a psychotic and deadly new player enters the game: the Joker (Heath Ledger), who offers the crime bosses a solution--kill the Batman. Maggie Gyllenhaal replaces Katie Holmes in the love interest role.

Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure is a 1989 comedy/sci-fi film about two slackers who are destined to save the entire universe by traveling through time by a guitar-playing guru from the future. William "Bill" S. Preston Esq. (Alex Winter) and Ted "Theodore" Logan (Keanu Reeves) play two high school friends, and Wyld Stallyns band members from San Dimas, CA who make for an unlikely cast to save the world. In their time travels they get the help of many historical figures including Napoleon Bonaparte, Socrates, Billy the Kid, Sigmund Freud, Beethoven, Genghis Khan, Joan of Arc, and Abraham Lincoln.

Like all movies about time travel, Bill and Ted's Excellent adventure raises many questions about the possibility and paradox of time travel. The entire film is an example of the predestination paradox in which Bill and Ted are "pre-destined" to travel back in time in the future forming a self-consistent causal loop.

Spoiler alert: In the final moments of the film, the time travelers exploit the Novikov self-consistency principle in order to break themselves into jail they promise that the future version of themselves to travel back in time and steal their Dad's keys and place them in a predetermined location. In a subtle moment at the beginning of the film, you'll notice that the Dad is missing his keys. Thus, Bill and Ted were pre-destined to succeed. Dude!

This comedic drama from writer-director Don Roos (THE OPPOSITE OF SEX) comes packed with many unusual themes including abortion, homosexual parenting, teenage pregnancy, marrying for green cards, and the unscrupulous practice of bringing a client to orgasm at the conclusion of a massage (the "happy ending" referenced in the title). Lisa Kudrow plays the recipient of one such massage, and she later makes a video about her masseur/lover--who says he has information about a son she gave up for adoption years earlier. Meanwhile, her gay brother (Steve Coogan) suspects that his boyfriend may have given sperm to a lesbian couple (Laura Dern and Sarah Clarke) to help them have a daughter. Another thread of this intricately woven plot concerns a sexual libertine (Maggie Gyllenhaal) who seduces both a rich widower (Tom Arnold) and his closeted gay son (Jason Ritter).

Shaun of the Dead was released in 2004, referring to itself as romantic zombie comedy (aka rom zom com). A satirical look at the zombie genre, made popular by films like Night of the Living Dead and its sequel Dawn of the Dead, Shaun of the Dead stars Simon Pegg and Nick Frost as Shaun and Ed trying to survive in a world quickly being taken over by zombies. Unlike other zombie movies, this film is much more of a comedy than a horror, and was initially inspired by an episode of the Brittish sitcom Spaced in which Simon Pegg's character, while under the influence of amphetamines imagines that he is fighting zombies.

Shaun of the Dead was both a critical and commercial success in the UK and North America and is now available on DVD. Director Edgar Wright released Hot Fuzz in 2007 in much the same style as Shaun of the Dead, but this time taking on a parody of the cop film.

The film however is told by Brushy Bill Roberts - a man who in the 1940s appeared claiming to be the real Billy the Kid.

This movie induced many kids to conclude that becoming a video game professional was indeed a feasible vocation....nearly 20 years later this movie seems to have come to fruition. One of the best movie lines of all time comes from this movie when the evil video game nemesis holds his mighty POWER GLOVE in the air and exclaims, "The power glove is soooooooooooooo bad!". This movie also introduced Super Mario Bros. 3 to the mainstream....but somehow Fred Savage already knew about the "magic flute" that warps Mario to the end of the game. The all-star cast includes Fred Savage, Christian Slater, and Jenny Lewis (now lead singer of the band Rilo Kiley).

Nearly 15 years have passed since the original broadcast of MTV's unplugged set, and now it is finally available on video for the first time. The DVD features the entire, unedited performance and the edited broadcast version--all in Dolby stereo and 5.1 Surround Sound. The cd version was released in 1994 (soon after Cobain's death), and went on to become Nirvana's second best selling cd of all time. As an extra bonus to the DVD, a 14-minute interview segment called Bare Witness produced by MTV focuses on those involved in the producing and taping of the set. Taped just months before Cobain's death, Unplugged in NY is both startingly raw and disturbingly planned, with the band playing amongst candles and stargazer lillies--more than a few people noted it seemed like a funeral.

What the Bleep Do We Know!? Is a film that combines documentary-style interviews, computer animation, and an overal narrative that posits a spiritual connection between quantum physics and conciousness.

The plot follows the story of a deaf female photographer; as she encounters emotional and existential obstacles in her life, she comes to consider the idea that individual and group consciousness can influence the material world. Her experiences are offered by the filmmakers as an illustration of the movie's thesis about quantum physics and consciousness. The 2004 cinematic release of the film was followed by a substantially changed, extended DVD version in 2006.

Bleep was conceived and its production funded by William Arntz, who co-directed the film along with Betsy Chasse and Mark Vicente: all of these individuals are students of Ramtha's School of Enlightenment. A moderately low-budget independent production, it was promoted using viral marketing methods and opened in art-house theaters in the western United States, winning several independent film awards before being picked up by a major distributor and eventually grossing over $10 million.

The film has been criticized for misrepresenting science and containing pseudoscience.

Matilda: Derek, I don't know if you're familiar with the belief that some aboriginal tribes hold. It's the concept that a photo might steal a part of your soul. What are your thoughts on that if someone gets his picture taken for a living?

Zoolander: Well I guess I would have to answer your question with another question. How many abo-diginals do you see modeling?

Hansel: So I'm repelling down mount Vesuvius when suddenly I slip. And I'm just falling, terrified and then I think, "Hey, Hansel, haven't you been smoking Peyote for six straight days and couldn't some of this maybe be in your mind?"

Derek Zoolander: And?

Hansel: And it was. I was totally fine. I've never even been to mount Vesuvius.

Hansel: I hear a lot of words like "beauty" and "handsomeness" and "incredibly chiseled features." To me that's like a vanity, a self-absorbtion that I try to steer clear of. I dig the bungee. For me, it's just the way I live my life. I grip it and I rip it. I live it with a lot of flair. I live it on the edge, where I gotta be. I wasn't like every other kids you know who dreams about being an astronaut. I was always more interested in aaaaa ? what bark was made out of on a tree. Richard Gere's a real hero of mine. Sting. Sting would be another person who's a hero. The music that he's created over the years - I don't really listen to it. But the fact that he's making it, I respect that. I care desperately about what I do. Do I know what product I'm selling? No. Do I know what I'm doing today? No. But I'm here and I'm gonna give it my best shot.

Zoolander: Modeling, to me, isn't just about being good-looking or having a lot of fun and being really, really good looking. The calendar was great because it gave people a chance to see a side of my versatility. The original Greek word for model means "misshapen ball of clay" and I try to think about that every time I get in front of a camera.

Zoolander: Who am I? I don't know. I guess I have a lot of things to ponder.

Derek Zoolander: If there is anything that this horrible tragedy can teach us, it's that a male model's life is a precious, precious commodity. Just because we have chiseled abs and stunning features, it doesn't mean that we too can't not die in a freak gasoline fight accident.

Larry Zoolander: I just thank the Lord she didn't live to see her son as a mermaid.

About a Son is a documentary featuring excepts of audio-interview recordings Michael Azerrad conducted with Kurt Cobain in the early 90s. The visual backdrop of the movie features very interesting graphical representations mixed with actual footage of the places and people in the story. The recordings allow Kurt Cobain to tell his side of the over-sensationalized Nirvana story in his own words. This really strips away the glam and provides a real human-side of the story that makes a lot of sense and gives real insight into what Cobain really thinks...he loves music....he is lazy...he has a twisted view on society....he deals with severe stomach and back pain....he doesn't like people that much. The soundtrack features music that Cobain listened to and helped form his musical sound. There are no Nirvana songs in the soundtrack....but they started as a CCR cover band anyways. Michael Azerrad used these recorded interviews as the basis for his book, "Come As You Are", which is a fully-sanctioned Nirvana biography.

A 1996 documentary that follows Canadian inventor Troy Hurtubise through a life-long project of building a suit of armour to battle a grizzly bear. While venturing in the Canadian north, Hurtubise was attacked by a large grizzly, which he named "The Old Man". After the bear spares his life, he dedicates his life to perfecting a suit so he can confront the bear again and finish the battle started so many years ago. Although not intended as a comedy, its hard not to have a chuckle with the larger than life personality of Hurtubise and his crazy antics. Most notible scenes are the tests of preliminary suits, where he is hit by a truck, a tree truck swung from another tree and thrown down a steep cliff. Quinton Tarentino himself claims this is one of the best films of 1996.

Fritz Lang's Metropolis is surely one of the greatest films ever made. Since it's release in Germany in 1927, its scope, its reach, its magnitude and its message are truly incredible even by today's standards of film-making.

PLOT SUMMARY: In the future, the society of Metropolis is divided in two social classes: the workers, who live in the underground below the machines level, and the dominant classes that lives in the surface. The workers are controlled by their leader Maria, who wants to find a mediator between the upper class lords and the workers, since she believes that a heart would be necessary between brains and muscles. Maria meets Freder Fredersen, the son of the Lord of Metropolis Johhan Fredersen, in a meeting of the workers, and they fall in love for each other. Meanwhile, Johhan decides that the workers are no longer necessary for Metropolis, and uses a robot pretending to be Maria to promote a revolution of the working class and eliminate them.

Heroes is an American drama television series, created by Tim Kring, which premiered on NBC on September 25, 2006. The series tells the story of several people who "thought they were like everyone else... until they woke with incredible abilities" such as telepathy, time travel and flight. These people soon realize they have a role in preventing a catastrophe and saving mankind.

The series loosely follows the writing style of American comics by doing short, multi-episode story arcs that build upon a larger, more encompassing arc. Even with small story arcs that move the story forward, Kring said he mapped out where he intends the show to go for the next five seasons.

If you consider yourself the slightest fan of japanese animation, or want to watch something different, do yourself a favour and watch this classic piece of film history.

Jaga commanded their ship while the other 7 were in their stasis tubes. Jaga died on their journey to Third Earth and their ship crashed there. Soon they made friends with various groups in the area and they designed a fortress. Absinthe Films has produced another very high quality snowboarding film. “Optimistic?” is 45mins of amazing riding and great filmmaking. The visuals are absolutely mesmerizing, particularly during the big mountain riding segments (which make up the majority of the DVD). The soundtrack is great and features TV on the Radio, Babyshambles, SiverSun Pickups, Von Bondies, and Busta Rhymes to name a few. “ Included in the bonus features is an impressive (and hilarious) performance by Mikey LeBlanc as “The Tobogganist”. Mikey straps snowboard bindings on a standard wooden toboggan and proceeds to lay out some impressive rail slides, airs, and carving manoeuvres through trees.
