So you think YouTube is pretty good eh? Heck, you might already be using the tv indexing sites. Well, the next evolution of Internet video is at hand, and I'm not talking about Joost. I'm talking about DVD quality, full screen goodness. And it's still new, meaning you can find movies, tv shows and everything.

Let's keep hope alive, and don't spread this around too much, because it's awesomeness would be too great a blow to lose.

Here it is

Stage6

Finding shows and movies is obviously very difficult when you're on the site itself, but if you do some creative googling you can find quite a bit of stuff that you're looking for. Again, it's new and young so it's not going to have everything, but the stuff it does have is great quality!

Pretty sick. It's basically next-gen version of YouTube. I think the current flash-based video players are WAY TOO LOW QUALITY, and this is about time. I wouldn't be surprised if the big guys move to this format. On top of that, you can save 10 bucks and not have to go see Spiderman 3.

They got rid of spider man. I hope they get more scrubs and 24 up there. Also, check your email Erik (smalldrummer2)

Can you download somehow? I think you can do it with the DivX player, but I am not sure. The frickin firewall here is pissing me off.

OK, the friking firewall is blocking my install of DivX Web Player in both firefox and IE. This sucks.

You can definitely download the .divx file which makes the whole setup even MORE sketch. I'll be posting a tutorial soon on how to run stage6 through Xbox Media Center turning this into the great thing EVER!

Alright, here's how to get instantly streaming DVD quality OnDemand movies and television shows directly onto your Television. This is 10x better than Peekvid, AllUC and all of that riff raff. This right here is 90% of the way to the ultimate digital media box. Other improvements would be high-definition, and letting you do everything from your couch, but seeing as how we've made it this far, I think it'll be sooner rather than later that we make it all the way.

Without further ado.

You will need a modded Xbox with XBMC running.

Next follow these instructions to make sure your XBMC is running the webserver [instructions]

Now, the firefox extension listed at that link doesn't work on the latest firefox, but a working extension can be found [here]

Next, go to this site to find tons of movies and television shows listed [here]

Find the video you're looking for, then underneath the movie window where it says "download divx file" simply right click on that and say "send to XBMC". Voila! You now have a full screen movie playing on your television. It really has to be seen to be believed at how amazing this is.

Totally 100% free. And the ads aren't even super-intrusive! And they even support HD video! As you can see I'm a total fanboy for this Stage6 service. This is what I've been asking for 6 months now, and it's here much sooner than I expected. More people NEED to start using Stage6 instead of YouTube... for everything. I mean obviously the pirated content is great, but even things like user videos, screencasts, etc. It's just so much darn better!
One of the things that will limit its growth though, is that videos have to be in the DivX format and I don't think they do the transcoding themselves. You just have to upload a file that is already in the DivX format, and that is beyond most user's capabilities. Most people just upload their videos in whatever format they happen to be in and let YouTube handle the rest. Still, for the people that appreciate quality hopefully they'll see the light and start using Stage6 more. I think it's already happening and that is just awwwwesome.

Definitely another reason to mod your xbox. I've done the setup with joox, stage6, and the Xbox and its pretty amazing. Watch movies and TV on demand in good quality (not DVD btw, but pretty darn good)
