Apple has announced their new lineup of iPods. The event has just ended, and Engadget has the full coverage. The most significant announcement was that of the addition of the Apple iPod Touch to their lineup of portable media players. Omar's been taking some notes, and I asked him if I could post them here for your keeners out there:
- iTunes now sells ringtones - LAME!
- 500K participating songs. Make your own from the ones in iTunes. Cost 0.99 in addition to the song. Integrated into iTunes. 30 seconds long. Must already own the song.
- Refresh/replace everything. 110 million sold.
Apple iPod shuffle - new colors.
- Holiday colors are cranberry, purple, light green, light blue, and silver. same $79 price.
Apple iPod Nano
- Larger, brighter display. Games. More storage. Full metal design. Watch videos. Cover Flow.
- The back is chrome, the front is anodized. Comes in black, red, silver, blue, and green. Similar colors to the new shuffle. the red one is product red but more of a cranberry. The old iPod video had 2.5" screen, new nano has 2.0" screen. Same resolution, 320x240 at 240ppi. Highest pixel density ever.
- Ridiculously thin.
- Battery life: 24 hours of audio, 5 hours of video. Two versions: 4GB and 8GB version. 4GB is silver. 8GB all colors. 4GB is $149, 8GB is $199. Twice the memory of predecessor at new prices, shipping today.
Apple iPod Classic
- 80GB audio.
- Enhanced UI (same as Nano).
- Full metal design, even thinner than before.
- silver and black.
- 160GB version. $249, $349.
- Battery life: 30 hours of audio, 5 hours of video. 160GB is 40 hours of audio, 7 hours of video.
Apple iPod Touch
- Same size as iPhone, but thinner. 8mm thick. Wi-Fi enabled. Web browser.
- Battery life: 22 hours audio, 5 hours of video. It's compatible with the iPod ecosystem accessories, 8GB and 16GB storage. 8GB is $299, 16GB is $399 — Both models available later this month. Back is chrome.
