I'm doing some major cleaning in my house and like anybody that's been using a computer for many years, I have a lot of CDs/DVDs lying around. Some of them are labeled, most of them aren't, so I get the fun job of going through them all to see what's on them. I started going through them, and the rush of nostalgia was palpable.

So as I go through these CDs I'm gonna update what's on them. This is music that I've collected since 1996 or so up until the near present time. And I used to be an odd high school student, so there's some hilarious (if slightly embarassing stuff in here). Heck, some of the stuff I don't even recognize.

Let's start!

CD1 - lots of anime, so definitely in the '97-98 era
  • Theme to Macross Plus
  • Porcelain by Moby
  • Famous classical song (I forget the name, but very famous)
  • Fur Elise
  • next 4 are songs from the Berserk anime OST. Damn I love this show, I definitely gotta watch my DVDs again
  • Sailor Moon song...
  • Grave of the Fireflies main theme
  • Princess Mononoke songs. I have to watch this movie again
  • finish it off with some Final Fantasy VII tracks

CD2 - All Jazz that I don't recognize at all. I think this is around 2001.
CD3 (mp3 CD) - a mix of Jazz and techno. Must be around 2000. And just a little tidbit about this CD. It's actually an mp3 CD formatted to play on a Dreamcast. Man, those were the days.
  • Jazz
    • Eliane Elias - Cross Currents
    • Chick Corea - Sundance
    • Chris Botti - Playing by Heart (Soundtrack to the movie Playing by Heart which is quite good)
  • Techno
    • Lilys - Zero Population Growth
    • Underworld - Everything

Radiohead - Kid A. A great album. I got into Radiohead around 2001 or so, I think this is from 2002 though.

Sasha - New Years Eve Live Mix. I don't know WHAT year, probably 1998. Progressive trance, pretty good, but man, so much time to get to the good parts. I'm sure it's fun when you're actually AT the club, but listening to it like this it's just like get on with it already!

Unnamed CD 4 (2002) - ok, I have NO idea what the hell music this is. All I remember is listening to it while studying for my finals in second year Software Engineering. This is some pretty messed up stuff, I don't even know how to describe it. What the hell was I listening to? There's like animal sounds, but then creepy wind chimes, and then some yodelling. This is nuts. Now it's an old man talking. Ok, that's enough for THIS CD.

Unnamed CD 5 (2002?) - I don't know the name of this album, but it's definitely a DJ mix of some kind, and I love it! Kind of funky and very cool.

BT Essential Mix with Pete Tong (1999?) - BT is awesome, but see my previous point about Progressive Trance...

Neon Genesis Evangelion OST 3 (1998) - a mix of everything from JPop, to ballads, to the show's battle music, and about 50 different versions of Fly me to the Moon.

Anime/Jazz Softmix (2002) - I want to dive lost-a mind! Starts off nicely with the opening song to Hajime No Ippo, best show ever! The rest of the CD is the definition of easy listening and elevator music. I've never taken medication before, but I think this is what I would listen to if I was on prozak. So why was I listening to it before? Oh, there's some Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within music on here, very nice!

Unnamed CD 6 - another crazy non-sensical selection of music. Seriously, what the HELL was I thinking. This one is like a recording of Stomp... except instead of trained professional performers you gave the trash cans and drums to monkeys.

Anime mix (1997) - this is straight up cheesy jpop stuff. Wow. I hope anime production has increased over these last years. Man, who knows what my parents were thinking when I was listening to this stuff. The worst part about it? I'm still bopping my head to the high-pitched japanese voices. Andsingingalongtotheenglishsailormoonsongs. Most of this stuff is pretty embarassing, except for... the Akira soundtrack songs! YES! These rock. Damn, I have to go watch Akira now too.

Man, listening to this I just want to yell out KANEDAAAAA

"Sailor Moon song?" - it's better if we stay away from that.

I am a fan of anime music, the high pitched japanese voices and the sense that you have no idea what there saying dosen't bother me.
