The Nakamichi CD 400 is a member of the Nakamichi line of Mobile Sound Systems. In 2003 it received the Design and Engineering Showcase award at the International Consumer Electronics Show. This show, fully titled Innovations 2003 Design and Engineering Awards program, is the Consumer Electronics Associations's (CEA) competition which rewords product excellence. The program was judged by a panel of 30 industry experts who used a weighted criteria to perform their product evaluations. The criteria includes value to user, aesthetics, contributions to the quality of life, and innovative qualities. The Nakamichi CD-400 is state of the art for 2003, with 24 bit digital-to-analog converters, a high-resolution preamplifier circuit topology, and triple-band tone controls.
